A 3rd-Generation Local Favorite in Gyeongju
Gohyang Milmyeon: Famous Nationwide for Its Legendary Wheat Noodles
Hey there, food lovers! It's Bamkki here!
Did you know Gyeongju is incredibly famous for its milmyeon (cold wheat noodles)?
A close friend recommended that I try this legendary spot:
Gohyang Milmyeon
It's officially designated as a "Centennial Store" (a prestigious government recognition for historic local shops), and they even sell their meal kits nationwide because they're so popular!
Here is my 100% honest, self-funded review of this Gyeongju culinary gem. Let's dive in!
Gohyang Milmyeon Main Branch |
📍 7, Taejong-ro 791beon-gil, Gyeongju-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do
⏱️ Daily 10:30 AM - 7:00 PM (Closed every Wednesday; closes early if ingredients run out)
🅿️ Nearby Public Parking (Gyeongju Central Shopping District, Bonghwangdae, or Gyeongju 2nd Public Parking) *No street parking allowed in front of the shop.
💰 Milmyeon (Small): ~$6 / (Large): ~$6 | Charcoal-grilled Bulgogi: ~$7 | Steamed Mandu: ~$4
✅ Expect lines even during weekday lunch hours.
✅ Pro-tip: The charcoal bulgogi paired with spicy bibim-milmyeon is an absolute dream!
1. Getting There & Dealing with the Queue
📍 Gohyang Milmyeon Main Branch
7, Taejong-ro 791beon-gil, Gyeongju-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do
Gohyang Milmyeon's flagship branch is nestled in Hwango-dong, Gyeongju.
It is incredibly convenient to reach, as it's just a short walk from major historic sights like Daereungwon Tomb Park, Geumgwanchong Tomb, and the trendy Geumridan-gil.
It's also super close to the famous, flashy Hwangnamppang bakery building.

Since parking directly in front of the shop is extremely limited,
we highly recommend using the nearby Bonghwangdae Public Parking or the Central Shopping District Public Parking.
We had a spot we'd been using near Geumgwanchong for a few days,
so we just parked there and walked over.
We visited around lunchtime on a Friday in 2026,
and luckily managed to grab a table without waiting.
However, the place filled up almost instantly,
with a steady queue of 3 to 5 groups waiting outside. Keep this in mind!
2. Simple Menu & Cozy Interior

The menu here is beautifully simple:
Mul-milmyeon (cold broth), Bibim-milmyeon (spicy mixed), and Yubu On-milmyeon (warm noodle soup with tofu).
For sides, you can choose between charcoal-grilled bulgogi and steamed mandu (dumplings).
What's amazing is that upgrading to a large portion (double noodles)
only costs about $1 more! Talk about incredible value.

I managed to snap these quick photos when the tables cleared briefly.
The turnover rate is very fast because everyone is happily slurping down their noodles and moving on,
so even if there's a line, it moves quickly.
3. Our Honest Taste Test: What We Ordered
We ordered a Large Mul-milmyeon, a Small Bibim-milmyeon,
and a side of Charcoal-grilled Bulgogi.

My husband was still parking the car when the food arrived—
that's how lightning-fast the service is! Haha.
While waiting for him, I helped myself to the self-serve hot broth.
It was so incredibly savory and comforting that I ended up drinking two whole cups before the noodles even touched my lips.

The charcoal-grilled bulgogi might look simple,
but it is seasoned to absolute perfection.
It instantly reminded me of the classic Korean food trend of wrapping savory grilled meat
around cold, refreshing noodles. It's the ultimate flavor combo!

Here is my husband's Large Mul-milmyeon.
Since it's the upgraded size, the portion of noodles is truly generous.
The secret to any elite cold noodle spot is always the broth.
Gohyang Milmyeon's broth is the real deal—deep, meaty, and beautifully balanced
without being overly sweet or artificially sharp!

My Bibim-milmyeon came with a splash of cold broth at the bottom.
The sauce had just the right amount of spicy kick.
I kept alternating between the spicy noodles and sips of the delicious hot broth—
a perfect hot-and-cold harmony!
Gyeongju was already feeling like peak summer during our trip,
making this cold noodle lunch the absolute highlight of our day.
That wraps up our review of Gyeongju's iconic Gohyang Milmyeon! :>

Parking and stopping are not allowed in the alley in front of the store. Instead, you must use nearby public parking lots such as Gyeongju Jungsim Sangga, Bonghwangdae, or Gyeongju 2nd Public Parking Lot.
There are three types: Mul-milmyeon, Bibim-milmyeon, and Yubu-on-milmyeon. The prices are ~$6 for a small size and ~$6 for a large size. The side menu, Seoksoe Bulgogi, is ~$7.
It is open daily from 10:30 AM to 7:00 PM, and is closed every Wednesday. It may close early if ingredients run out for the day.
