During our trip to Osaka in the summer of 2026, my friends and I decided to take a day trip to the scenic port city of Kobe. We couldn't miss the stunning waterfront views at Kobe Harborland, and trying authentic Kobe beef was at the very top of our bucket list!
After taking in the gorgeous harbor views, we headed over to the adjacent Mosaic shopping center to find a great dinner spot. We wanted somewhere popular with locals that had solid reviews, which led us straight to Gochikura.

My photo of the storefront turned out a bit blurry in my excitement! Gochikura is a cozy Japanese-Western fusion restaurant located on the 2nd floor of the Kobe Harborland umie MOSAIC shopping mall.

Even though we arrived for an early dinner, we were told there would be a wait if we didn't have a reservation. Luckily, we only had to wait about 10 to 15 minutes before being shown to our table.

While waiting, we noticed a display of sake bottles and official Kobe beef grading certificates. Just like seeing USDA Prime or certified Angus labels back home, Japanese restaurants proudly showcase these official certificates to guarantee you are getting 100% authentic, high-grade Kobe beef.

The interior was incredibly clean, sleek, and had a wonderful, upscale casual restaurant vibe. It felt very welcoming and comfortable.
Gochikura is very tourist-friendly. They offer multi-language menus, making the ordering process stress-free even if you don't speak Japanese.

We ended up ordering a set menu that seemed to offer the best value. Ordering is done easily by scanning a QR code at the table, which opens up a digital menu that you can easily translate in your browser. It makes customizing your order super simple!

Since it was the first night of our getaway, we ordered a round of drinks to celebrate. Everyone in our group has different tastes, so we ended up with a colorful mix of beverages for our toast!

First up, the steak and grilled skewers arrived. Because we ordered the set course, the dishes were served sequentially, perfectly paced to match how fast we were eating.

The Kobe beef steak was unbelievably tender. At first glance, I wondered if it might be a bit chewy, but it sliced like butter and melted instantly in my mouth. The seasoning and sauce complemented the rich, marbled beef perfectly.

After finishing the steak, the highlight of the night arrived: Kobe beef sushi! Since we each ordered the set menu, they served us a generous, beautifully plated platter.
The sushi tasted just as spectacular as it looked. Velvet-soft, rich, and incredibly savory. Now I completely understand why everyone says you absolutely must eat authentic Kobe beef when visiting the region!

To wrap up this incredible meal, we were served dessert. Instead of standard ice cream, they brought out a beautifully plated, thick Greek yogurt dessert. It was rich, creamy, and the perfect refreshing palate cleanser to end our course.

Here is an awesome bonus: my friend noticed that ordering this specific set menu qualified us for free tickets to the Mosaic Ferris Wheel! It seemed to be a special promotional event, and receiving them at checkout was such a pleasant surprise.

The Mosaic Giant Ferris Wheel is one of the best night-view spots in Kobe Harborland, offering sweeping views of the illuminated port. Riding it for free made the night feel even more magical! I will be posting a full review of the Ferris wheel experience soon, so stay tuned!
