Kobe Travel Itinerary: Must-Visit Spots

Kobe, a fantastic day trip from Osaka!

With the recent increase in direct flights

from Incheon to Kobe, it seems more and more

people are choosing Kobe as their

primary travel destination.

After my own trip to Kobe,

I found it refreshingly different from bustling Osaka.

It's a city where you can wander leisurely

around the harbor, and that laid-back vibe

made it incredibly charming.

Today, I'm going to share a comprehensive guide to Kobe's must-visit spots

and top restaurants, all in one place!

1. Accommodation in Kobe

When it comes to finding a place to stay in Kobe,

I highly recommend booking your accommodation in the Sannomiya area.

It's the absolute heart of Kobe,

making it incredibly convenient to explore major attractions like

Kobe Port, Harborland, Nankinmachi (Chinatown),

and even Kobe Airport. :)

I personally stayed at Candeo Hotels, located right in front of Sannomiya Station.

It's a popular Japanese chain hotel, offering great value for money.

But what really sets it apart?

There's a fantastic public bath (daiyokujo) on the top floor!

It's the perfect place to melt away all the fatigue

from exploring Kobe...!!!

I know many people travel to Kobe with their parents,

2. Kobe Travel Itinerary: Must-Visit Spots

Harborland

Kobe Harborland is a sprawling tourist area

built along Kobe Port in Japan.

It's a place where you can enjoy shopping, incredible food, and stunning night views all in one spot,

making it one of Kobe's quintessential must-visit attractions.

From Mosaic Shopping Mall, home to a giant Ferris wheel,

you can take a lovely stroll along the waterfront, enjoying the sea breeze,

and take in the entire harbor view, including Kobe's iconic Port Tower. :)

During the day, you could spend your time shopping at Mosaic Shopping Mall.

If you're visiting with kids,

the Anpanman Children's Museum inside Mosaic

is a great place to check out.

The museum itself is exclusively for children,

so it seems adults can't enter without them.

However, if you're an adult who loves Anpanman,

you can still visit the cafe or gift shop

near the entrance. You can definitely go there!

Here, you'll find breads shaped like the characters

from Anpanman, and they're absolutely worth trying.

You really must give them a try!

The taste was just okay,

but it was wonderful for reliving childhood memories

of watching Anpanman, haha.

Kobe Port Tower

If Osaka has its iconic Glico Man,

Kobe proudly boasts its Port Tower.

As one of Kobe's most famous landmarks,

it's located in Harborland.

In the afternoon, after exploring the Mosaic shopping mall and

the giant Ferris wheel,

you can stroll along the harbor and admire the night view from the Port Tower.

It's absolutely perfect for enjoying the night view.

The Port Tower, by the way,

was built in 1963 to commemorate the 90th anniversary

of Kobe Port's opening. It's an observatory built to celebrate this milestone.

Once you go up to the observatory,

you can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view,

from Kobe Harborland to the sea and the entire Kobe city.

Children under 6 years old (pre-school) enter for free.

After purchasing your ticket, you take the elevator up

and arrive at the indoor observatory.

The regular indoor observatory

only allows you to see through the indoor glass windows.

At night, the light reflects off the glass, making it hard to see the scenery clearly.

So, if you truly want to experience the night view,

I recommend purchasing a ticket that includes access

to the rooftop observatory. It's highly recommended!

Unlike bustling Osaka,

Kobe has a unique calm and tranquil atmosphere

that I really loved :)

Sannomiya Center Gai

Kobe's largest arcade shopping street,

Sannomiya Center Gai!

You can think of it as a bustling downtown area

located right in front of Sannomiya Station.

With all sorts of shopping malls, delicious restaurants, and charming cafes

stretching endlessly,

it's perfect for a leisurely stroll and some window shopping.

Since there's a roof installed overhead,

you can enjoy comfortable shopping

even on rainy days! :)

You'll find pretty much everything you need here,

from drugstores, Don Quijote, Daiso,

Kiddy Land, Uniqlo, and more!

Nunobiki Ropeway

I also highly recommend the Nunobiki Ropeway,

located near Shin-Kobe Station, which is just one stop away

from Sannomiya Station.

As you ride the cable car up,

you'll be treated to breathtaking views of Nunobiki Falls

and the entire city of Kobe spread out below.

As the cable car ascends,

it makes two stops: one at the midway station and one at the summit.

If you continue past the midway station all the way to the summit,

you'll be treated to a panoramic view of Kobe city.

At the midway station, you'll find the Nunobiki Herb Garden,

where the flowers and herbs change with each season.

I visited in autumn,

and the beautifully bloomed cosmos flowers made for fantastic photo opportunities. Haha!

And it's quite spacious here!

I recommend taking the cable car straight to the summit first,

then walking down to the midway station,

exploring,

and finally taking the cable car down from the midway station. :)

3. Kobe Trip Summary

Honestly, Kobe doesn't have an overwhelming number of attractions,

so you can comfortably see everything in one day if you're on a tight schedule,

or over two days if you prefer a more relaxed pace.

Compared to Osaka, it's less crowded everywhere you go.

Restaurants rarely have long waits, and tourist spots aren't packed with people,

making for a truly relaxing trip! Haha.

Unfortunately, it rained during my trip, so

I couldn't make it to Nankinmachi Chinatown, which I had planned to visit,

or Kitano Ijinkan, an area where

houses and consulates of foreigners who resided in Kobe after

Kobe Port opened in the late 19th century still remain.

It was a shame, but these two places are also wonderful,

so be sure to check them out! :)
