While I usually gravitate towards Gurae-dong, I don't often explore the Janggi-dong food street. However, I discovered that the Daebak Hwangso Gopchang I loved in Tongjin now has a location here!

So, I made a trip right away, and wow, the dining area is much larger than the Tongjin branch. It's perfectly suited for office dinners or large group gatherings. Haha.

Ordering Your Meal

Ordering is super convenient with a QR code at each table. But if you're not comfortable with QR, there's a bell to call a friendly server to take your order directly.

After you place your order, they bring out fresh beef liver and omasum. If you're a fan of these delicacies, you absolutely must visit Daebak Hwangso Gopchang!

Why? Because the liver and omasum are endlessly refillable until they run out.🧡 I definitely went for a refill!

Another reason I traveled all the way to Janggi-dong for Daebak Hwangso Gopchang is their special sauce and particularly their chive salad. The chive salad is incredibly delicious!

It's not just something you eat to cut through the richness of the Gopchang; it's so tasty that you'll keep reaching for it with every bite of the grilled intestines.

It was also great that a hearty tofu stew came with the meal.

Assorted Platter (Modum-gui)

(~1.3 lbs / 600g, includes Gopchang, Makchang, Daechang, Yeomtong, Honeycomb Tripe)

I wanted to try a little bit of everything, so I ordered the Assorted Platter. As you can see in the picture, it came piled high with Gopchang (small intestines), Makchang (large intestines), Daechang (large intestines with fat), Yeomtong (beef heart), and Honeycomb Tripe.

Plus, there was kimchi, mushrooms, potatoes, and seasoned rice cakes all on one generous platter. It was truly abundant and satisfying!

While I usually don't prefer Yeomtong and Daechang as much as Gopchang and Makchang, the Yeomtong and Daechang here are absolutely delicious!

Especially Daechang, which can often be too oily and chewy at other places, was wonderfully rich and flavorful here. ❤️ Pairing the Daechang with their special sauce and chives was a match made in heaven.

The special reason to visit Daebak Hwangso Gopchang? It's the honeycomb tripe!

As a true Gopchang lover who's tried many places, I haven't seen many spots that include honeycomb tripe in their assorted platters. But here, they do! Haha.

Honeycomb tripe can be quite labor-intensive to prepare for grilling, so it's not commonly served this way, but Daebak Hwangso Gopchang offers it. ❤️ When cooked well, it's chewy yet can get delightfully crispy. I was a big fan, so I highly recommend trying this place if you're looking for Gopchang in Janggi-dong.

Seriously, all the Gopchang, Makchang, Daechang, Yeomtong, and Honeycomb Tripe here are delicious. Make sure to cook them well and enjoy them with the chive salad and special sauce.

Honestly, the flavors made the drinks flow effortlessly!

Fried Rice (Bokkeumbap) (+ Cheese Add-on)

While fried rice at Gopchang places can sometimes be hit or miss, Daebak Hwangso Gopchang's fried rice is also incredibly tasty. The basic version is good, but today I tried it with added cheese.

They were generous with the cheese, so it stretched beautifully and had a rich cheesy flavor, making it absolutely delicious. Even if you're full after the Gopchang, I highly recommend ordering the fried rice to finish your meal!

The spacious restaurant is great for company dinners or gatherings. More importantly, the main Gopchang dishes are made exclusively with Korean beef, which is carefully prepared by hand, ensuring there's no unpleasant smell or gamey taste. And the most crucial part, the flavor, is amazing. Even the fried rice is delicious!
