✨️ Highly recommended for:
✔︎ Travelers hunting for the absolute best Cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew) in Gimpo
✔︎ Foodies looking for a true, local-approved hidden gem away from the tourist crowds

To be honest, the exterior doesn't do the space justice.
Once you step inside, it's surprisingly spacious and bright!
It's packed with older Korean locals—which, as any seasoned traveler knows,
is the ultimate green flag for authentic, high-quality food.

I was worried we'd have to wait, but luckily we snagged a lovely table right by the window.
The Menu

Just like the name suggests, the star players here are
marsh snail (olgaengi) dishes and house-made fermented soybean stew (cheonggukjang).
We ordered our usual feast: two bowls of Marsh Snail Hangover Soup,
two orders of the House-Made Cheonggukjang, and a savory Marsh Snail Pancake.

The side dishes (banchan) are simple but exceptionally clean and fresh.
If you run out,

you can easily grab refills at the self-serve station.
Marsh Snail Hangover Soup (Olgaengi Haejangguk)

The Marsh Snail Hangover Soup arrives boiling hot in a traditional earthen pot.
The best part? It is absolutely loaded with tiny, nutrient-rich marsh snails!
Personally, I found the broth a little on the mild side today.
I usually prefer a slightly spicier kick, but my dad absolutely loved the clean, earthy flavor.
It definitely depends on your personal palate!

✨️MUST-ORDER MENU ITEM✨️
✨️✨️✨️✨️The Cheonggukjang✨️✨️✨️✨️
Even though this place is named after its snail soup,
our family agreed that the Cheonggukjang is the real star of the show.
Almost every table of two or more was ordering this stew.
Even if you come here intending to get the snail soup,
the rich, comforting aroma wafting through the dining room will tempt you to order the stew instead!

It seems simple, but it has a depth of flavor that is hard to find elsewhere.
To be completely fair, on this particular day, the broth tasted just a tiny bit lighter than usual.
At any ordinary restaurant, that might deter me from coming back—
but because I know how incredible this place truly is, I know it was just a minor off-day.
It has that nostalgic, addictive quality that keeps you coming back no matter what.
The verdict? I'll absolutely be back for the Cheonggukjang next time!
Marsh Snail Pancake (Olgaengijeon)

Since we had a larger group, we also ordered the Marsh Snail Pancake.
It's tasty and crispy, but not necessarily a standout dish compared to the stews.
I'd say skip it unless you have a big group and want to share an appetizer.
My personal ranking for this restaurant:
Cheonggukjang >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Marsh Snail Hangover Soup >>>>> Marsh Snail Pancake

We completely cleared the table! Absolutely delicious. Haha.

They even have a complimentary sweet coffee machine for a perfect post-meal treat! ❤️
✔︎ Final Thoughts on Unyang-dong's Local Gem

The parking lot is quite spacious, making it super easy to visit by car.

If you are traveling with kids, they also provide high chairs, which is a great family-friendly touch.
Keep in mind, weekend lunch hours can get incredibly busy and a bit lively (noisy)!
If you want to experience authentic Korean comfort food at its finest,
make sure to visit Kim Dong-yeong Olgaengi & Cheonggukjang!
