A friend who's practically a Gangneung expert recommended this amazing spot near Gangmun Beach. It's a dessert cafe famous for its puddings, called GGUOK (pronounced 'goo-ok'). I decided to grab some Chodang Corn Pudding to go and give it a try!

I'll share my thoughts on how it stacks up against Jeju's famous Umu Pudding and what other menu items are worth trying. You'll find all the cafe details at the very end of this post!

01 A Charming Little Space

GGUOK is tucked away just a couple of minutes' walk behind Gangmun Beach, and it's even cozier than I expected. It has this adorable, almost quaint country store kind of vibe, which I absolutely loved.

It's not a huge cafe, but that's precisely what makes it so charming. There were only about four tables inside. I really wanted to sit down and savor the atmosphere, but even though it wasn't peak season, the tables were full. If you head there in August 2026, you'll likely need to plan for takeout!

Throughout GGUOK Cafe, you'll spot these super cute corn figurines. Seriously, why are these little corn kernels so adorably quirky? They just add to the cafe's unique personality!

This is the perfect Gangneung dessert cafe to pop into after enjoying a stroll along Gangmun Beach.

02 Discovering Gangneung's Chodang Corn Coffee

The menu at GGUOK Cafe in Gangneung is wonderfully concise. Of course, they have classic coffees like an Americano (~$3) and Cafe Latte (~$4), but their specialty corn-infused drinks are the real stars:

03 Chodang Corn Pudding vs. Jeju Umu Pudding

Since my friend raved so much about the corn pudding, I decided to go for just one, even though I was tempted by the Chodang Corn Coffee. This is a homemade pudding with no preservatives, so it's best to enjoy it quickly!

In summer, they recommend eating it within 5 minutes, and even in winter, within 10. Given the scorching August heat of 2026, you'll want to finish it in about a minute, seriously! 🥵

So, what's the verdict on GGUOK's Chodang Corn Pudding? Oh, it's incredibly smooth!

I'm a big fan of Jeju Umu pudding and always grab some whenever I visit Jeju Island. Compared to Umu, which has a slightly chewier texture, GGUOK's pudding is much smoother and simply melts in your mouth.

Plus, it's not overly sweet, so you can keep enjoying it without getting tired of the flavor!

Maybe it tasted even better because I was enjoying it outside with a view of the ocean? 😍 Either way, I totally get why GGUOK Cafe is such a highly recommended dessert spot in Gangneung!
