During my half-year stay in Gangneung,
no lie, I went to Gangneung Wonseong Restaurant
about 5 times.
While there are many great Jjamppong restaurants in Gangneung,
my team leader told me it was a Japchae-bap hotspot,
so I went along, wondering,
"Huh??? Not Jjamppong, but Japchae-bap?"

Now that I think about it, my Japchae-bap craze
definitely started at that moment, lol.
I'll put the restaurant info at the very bottom.
01 My First Time Trying Japchae-bap
Honestly, before I went to Gangneung Wonseong Restaurant,
I had never actually tried Japchae-bap before.
I'm not usually a huge fan of japchae itself,
so I thought to myself,
"How good could Japchae-bap possibly be?"

So, instead of just Japchae-bap,
I heard that Ganjjajang was also delicious,
so we ordered Japchae-bap and Ganjjajang and shared them.
OMG, but...
it was seriously delicious?!

Since I'd never tried Japchae-bap before,
I didn't really have a benchmark,
but after eating the Japchae-bap at Gangneung Wonseong Restaurant,
now, almost no other Japchae-bap tastes good anywhere else!
hahahaha
02 Gangneung Wonseong Restaurant Menu
I've Tried Almost Everything
Due to that addictive taste, I kept going back.
I went to Gangneung Wonseong Restaurant again,
then again whenever I started to forget how good it was...
and that's how it went, haha.

Every time we went, not only did we order Japchae-bap,
but we also got Ganjjajang, Jjamppong, and even Tangsuyuk.
We even tried the regular Jjajangmyeon.

Seriously, everything here is delicious!👍
Ganjjajang is delicious, and Jjamppong too
has a different kind of deliciousness compared to other famous Jjamppong spots in Gangneung.
Tangsuyuk is pretty good too!

As for Jjajangmyeon, due to an ordering mistake,
we *forcibly*(?) tried it,
but at Gangneung Wonseong Restaurant,
you really shouldn't order Jjajangmyeon... hahaha.

Pay ~$2 more and get the Ganjjajang, definitely!

✅ Ganjjajang
✅ Jjamppong
03 Still Thinking About It Even After Returning to Seoul..🤤
During my six months living in Gangneung,
there are a few famous Gangneung restaurants,
but Gangneung Wonseong Restaurant is...
It honestly makes it into my top 5 places!👍
(I should totally make a post about my top 5 Gangneung restaurants later!)

The Japchae-bap (stir-fried glass noodles with rice) has a wonderfully rich seasoning,
and that peppery kick is just exquisite,,,!
The Ganjjajang (dry-sauce black bean noodles) is also much richer
and nuttier than regular Jjajangmyeon,
while the Jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) boasts an incredibly refreshing and clean flavor.

I'd confidently say it holds its own against another famous Gangneung Jjamppong spot,
Sinjjam..!
(Though the styles are a little different)
If you prefer lighter flavors,
you might find the seasoning a tad strong.
But hey, just add more rice
and you get to eat even more, so it's a win-win~
Haha!

Even if the seasoning is a bit bold,
the flavor is absolutely authentic and delicious!👍

Why did Tzuyang (a famous Korean mukbang YouTuber) only just discover
Gangneung Wonseong Sikdang?🎵
04 Gangneung Wonseong Sikdang: Waiting and Parking
Gangneung Wonseong Sikdang is a truly small, old-school, neighborhood Chinese restaurant
located in the old town.
Inside, there's a room where you take off your shoes,
which can seat about 4 groups,
and about 4 groups can sit outside.
It's a cozy space!

Even before Tzuyang's YouTube feature,
many locals visited on weekdays, so
if you time your visit for lunchtime,
there might be a bit of a wait.
We recommend going a little early
or avoiding peak lunch hours altogether.
Even though it's a Chinese restaurant with a relatively fast turnover,
it's much safer that way to avoid waiting.

If you do need to wait,
head inside to get a number tag (it's actually a rice paddle! 😙)
and just wait your turn!
There's a public parking lot along Namdaecheon Stream behind Wonseong Sikdang,
but honestly, it's rarely empty (...).
So, for parking, you'll have to rely on your luck and skill
around the restaurant! ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ (chuckles) That's how it is with popular local spots.
If you're lucky, like we sometimes are,
you might find a spot on the street directly opposite!
(Definitely check for CCTV before parking there)
Even after returning to Seoul,
I still find myself craving Gangneung Wonseong Sikdang sometimes.
If you're traveling to Gangneung and looking for a fantastic Chinese restaurant,
I highly recommend stopping by Wonseong Sikdang.
Order a variety of dishes like Japchae-bap, Ganjjajang, and Jjamppong,
and share them with your travel buddies! 😃
