Gangneung Ocean View Stays: A 2026 Comparison of 2 Top Spots
Planning a trip to Gangneung? Explore two fantastic ocean view accommodations—Kyungpo Soo Hotel and Dangsinui Anmok Pension—perfect for any traveler in 2026.
I loved Gangneung so much, I found myself back just two weeks after my first trip! For a while, I hadn't had many opportunities to explore Gangwon Province, but returning to Gangneung after so long felt absolutely wonderful. Whether you're a solo adventurer looking for great value, a couple seeking a romantic ocean-view hotel, or even a family wanting a cozy pension, I'm here to compare two fantastic options for your next visit.
Kyungpo Soo Hotel

The Kyungpo Soo Hotel is a charming ocean-view hotel nestled on Changhae-ro in Gangneung City, right by the scenic Gyeongpo Lake.
While popular spots like St. John's, Seamarq, and Skybay often grab the spotlight, if you're looking for an ocean-view hotel that offers fantastic value without compromising on quality, Kyungpo Soo is an excellent choice.

The lobby on the first floor is impeccably clean, offering convenient amenities like a water dispenser and coffee machine. Even better, a popular restaurant is located right on the ground floor, so you won't have to venture far for a delicious meal. Or, if you prefer a cozy night in, ordering delivery is always an option!

The Standard Room offers ample space for two guests, while the Triple Room, featuring two comfortable beds, can accommodate up to three adults. Each room category provides a choice between stunning ocean views or serene lake views.

I opted for a lake view, and it was absolutely lovely! I noticed quite a few people enjoying morning and evening runs around the lake. If I had known, I would've packed my running shoes to join them!

You'll find a comfortable desk and chair, perfect for catching up on some reading or getting work done on your laptop, along with standard amenities and complimentary bottled water.

The bathroom also boasted excellent water pressure, making for a refreshing shower experience.

Dangsinui Anmok Pension

Next up is 'Dangsinui Anmok Pension,' situated right on the vibrant Anmok Beach Street. This spot is absolutely perfect for couples seeking a romantic getaway, largely thanks to its truly breathtaking ocean views.

To check in, I headed to the management office on the third floor. In an era where self-service kiosks are becoming the norm, I was a little surprised to go through a direct ID check and receive a physical room key. But there was a good reason for this traditional approach!

And what a reason it was! The moment I stepped into the room, I was utterly captivated. This isn't just another hotel; it's the epitome of an 'ocean-view pension,' with an interior and ambiance that truly impress.

While cooking utensils are provided for whipping up simple meals, they were so pristine it almost felt a shame to use them! Bringing in some takeout or pre-packaged food is a perfectly convenient alternative.

Late at night, I loved watching people laughing and enjoying fireworks along the beach. I also made sure to wake up early one morning to simply gaze out at the tranquil ocean. While I've stayed at ocean-view hotels in Busan, I find Gangneung offers a far more peaceful and relaxing atmosphere.

I've shared two fantastic ocean-view options, a hotel and a pension, for your Gangneung adventure. Remember that from late summer onwards, Gangneung enters its peak travel season, meaning popular accommodations can book up quickly or see price increases. If your travel dates are set, it's always a good idea to secure your favorite stay as soon as possible!
