Just a heads-up: it's not free for your entire stay, but the first hour is on the house!

Just a short walk across this area, and you'll find yourself right at the market entrance!

While the parking lot is quite spacious, be aware that it tends to fill up completely during lunch hours on weekends and holidays – a popular spot for a reason!
Operating Hours & Parking Fees

The first hour is free, then it's ~$0 for up to 1 hour and 30 minutes.
After 90 minutes, it's an additional ~$0 for every 10 minutes.

Here's the view looking towards the parking lot from inside the market.
Oh, and look – there's a 'Gangneung Nekkeot' photo booth! Perfect for snapping some fun souvenir pictures.
The Market's Main Entrance

This is the main entrance area of the market.
You'll find a fantastic array of shops lining both sides of every charming alleyway.

From traditional snack stalls (bunsikjip) to cozy coffee shops, there's a truly incredible variety of foods waiting to be discovered.
Seriously, if you're planning a trip to Gangneung, a visit to Gangneung Jungang Market is an absolute must-do!

Right in front of a shop called Seongnam Susan, I spotted some dried stingrays hanging – a unique sight!

And yes, even Dubai Chocolate made an appearance!

I even saw a vendor selling fresh fish right from a traditional street stall – such an authentic market experience!

You'll also find specialty fruit juice shops and fantastic raw fish restaurants (hoetjip).
Plenty of people were grabbing their delicious finds to go, which is always a good sign!
Did you know Gangneung Jungang Market also has a vibrant fish market on the first basement floor?
If you're looking to buy some fresh raw fish, I highly recommend heading down to the basement level.

And when you're in Gangneung, 'Ojingeo Sundae' (squid sausage) is an absolute must-try dish – trust me on this one!

You'll find plenty of fried food stalls, and shops selling that famous Ojingeo Sundae are scattered throughout the market.

While the areas with more general shops feel a bit calmer, the section selling the famous Dakgangjeong (sweet and sour fried chicken) – which I'll show you next – is absolutely buzzing with eager visitors!

Beni Dakgangjeong is arguably the most famous spot in Jungang Market.
It's a renowned eatery where you always have to wait in a long line.
If it's your first time at Gangneung Jungang Market, you definitely have to try it – even if it means waiting in line.
But if you've tried it once, you probably won't want to stand in that long line again.
There are so many other delicious things to discover, after all!

This is the underground fish market I mentioned earlier.
Usually, fish markets tend to sell pretty much the same types of fish.
But here, I noticed some shops had unique fish they specialized in.
If you visit Gangneung Jungang Market, make sure to explore the underground level too!

On my way out, I also picked up some semi-dried squid.

I also wandered past shops selling fermented seafood and rice cakes.

This spot selling Ice Cream Hotteok also had a long line, clearly a popular choice!

There were pancake shops too.
You can also buy beautifully prepared king crab.

This place always had a crowd in front of it.
The sweet and spicy Dakgangjeong seems to be one of the most popular treats in Gangneung Jungang Market.

This is the Ox Bone Soup Alley, boasting over 70 years of history.

This Ox Bone Soup restaurant here is also quite famous, it turns out!

Those huge cauldrons hint at the incredible flavor awaiting you.

There were so many delicious treats at the market that I didn't get a chance to try Gukbap this time.
But I'm definitely going to give it a try on my next visit!

See how incredibly reasonable the prices are here?
I absolutely have to visit this spot someday!
Gangneung Jungang Market is a truly delightful place where incredible flavors and cherished memories come together.
Just a 5-minute walk from the parking lot, it's incredibly convenient to dive into the diverse and fresh culinary wonders of Gangwon-do.
