Where to Find Hyeongje Hoetjip?
On the 2nd Floor Dining Area of Central Market

Here's a quick tip for easily locating Hyeongje Hoetjip within Gangneung Central Market!
While many of the fish markets are in the basement, Hyeongje Hoetjip is actually on the 2nd-floor dining area.

If you're having trouble finding the stairs to the second floor, look for the entrance next to "Gangneungirayo," famous for its potato bread. That's your easy way up!
What to Eat at Hyeongje Hoetjip?!🐟

📍 Hyeongje Hoetjip
2nd Floor, Jungang Market, 21 Geumseong-ro, Gangneung-si, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province
Hyeongje Hoetjip offers a diverse menu including Makhoe (mixed raw fish), Flounder, Rockfish, Trout, Red Sea Bream, and Squid. You'll find plenty of options to choose from!
They sell portions for 2, 3, or 4 people, making it super convenient to choose based on your group size.

This Gangneung raw fish restaurant offers both dine-in and takeout options, and their open kitchen concept was quite impressive.
A helpful tip: takeout prices are typically about ~$7 cheaper than dining in!

🐟 My order: 2-person Assorted Sashimi for ~$29
I chose two types of sashimi for my assorted platter and completed my takeout order! It came neatly packed in a box, complete with fresh wraps and sauces to enjoy with the fish.
Unboxing at the Accommodation After Takeout

Ta-da! My perfectly packed flounder and rockfish sashimi!
They even include a delicious vegetable salad, which pairs wonderfully with the fresh fish.

In addition to the vegetable salad, they also pack in a generous array of delicious accompaniments: fresh lettuce, roasted seaweed, whelks, wasabi, flying fish roe, ssamjang (Korean seasoned soybean paste), and chojang (sweet and spicy chili sauce).
It's fantastic that they provide so many side dishes with the takeout – definitely something to keep in mind!

The Gangneung Hyeongje Hoetjip sashimi takeout I ordered was perfectly portioned for two people. It was a clean, no-fuss setup, ideal for a delicious meal for two.

What truly sets Hyeongje Hoetjip apart is their signature "Makhoe" style of slicing the fish. Unlike other sashimi restaurants where the slices are spread out, here they are piled up in generous chunks.
While it might look like a smaller portion at first glance, don't be fooled – it's definitely enough for two people to enjoy thoroughly!

The thickness of the sashimi was just perfect – not too thick, not too thin. It offered a delightful balance of chewiness and tenderness, making every bite a pleasure.

While the sashimi is incredibly sweet and savory on its own, I followed Hyeongje Hoetjip's recommended way of eating it: combining roasted seaweed, flying fish roe, a slice of sashimi, the vegetable salad, and a dollop of ssamjang.
Oh wow! It was smooth, savory, rich, and utterly delicious! The ssamjang sauce, in particular, was an absolute game-changer – truly the "kick" that brought everything together!
Who is This Place For?

With its unique Makhoe style, Gangneung Hyeongje Hoetjip was a fantastic and unpretentious place to enjoy fresh fish!
This was truly a great value Gangneung raw fish restaurant that I'd love to visit again on my next trip to Gangneung.
So, if you're searching for a raw fish spot at Gangneung Central Market, why not give Hyeongje Hoetjip on the 2nd-floor dining area a try?
