I visit Ganghwado so often that Oepo Port has become a weekly ritual for me! Just last week, I stopped by, and guess what? The Shrimp Paste Festival is happening this week! I remember it being quite a buzz when I passed through last year (2025), so I was curious. Seeing it return this year, with popular singers and fun experiences like kimchi-making or shrimp paste-making, made me think it's definitely worth participating.

Since it's also shrimp season, I realized if I bought some more king shrimp, sashimi, or other seafood, I could join in... I actually regretted not buying more king shrimp then!

Oepo Port Seafood Market Review & Shop Recommendation

First things first, let's talk about parking! It's a common concern. While the parking lot can be considered both spacious and a bit tight, it's always packed whenever I visit. However, don't give up! If you circle around two or three times, a spot usually opens up. Just a heads-up, though: with Jang Min-ho and Park Seo-jin performing on October 10th and 11th, it might be even harder to find a spot! 🤣

When you visit Oepo Port Fermented Seafood Market on Ganghwado, it's honestly not a massive fish market. You can walk through the main strip in about 3-5 minutes. But what I love about this place is that the vendors aren't overly aggressive with their sales pitches.

The prices are pretty consistent across the board, so I usually just head to a friendly stall near the entrance that my parents always go to for our king shrimp.

Dongnam 2-ho

I've reviewed Dongnam 2-ho before, and it's a gem! It's conveniently located near the main entrance of the Fermented Seafood Market, and their packaging is always neat. Plus, the owner (a lovely lady) and the grandmothers at the fermented seafood section are incredibly friendly!

Shrimp, blue crab, abalone, scallops,

sea squirts, and sashimi all looked incredibly tempting, but...

Since it's shrimp season, I decided to grab some king shrimp! As of October 03, the price was ~$30 for 2.2 pounds (1kg). My sibling mentioned they bought shrimp for ~$26 per 2.2 pounds the day before and wondered if my purchase was overpriced. However, knowing that king shrimp near my home goes for ~$37-~$41, and even the popular Yak-am Shrimp Farm, which gets crazy during shrimp season, was selling for ~$28 per 2.2 pounds, I honestly didn't think ~$30 was expensive, so I went ahead and bought it.

Thinking back to the traffic jam I encountered at Yak-am Shrimp Farm last year, it's probably better for my mental health to just spend an extra ~$1 and buy them at Oepo Port! 🤣 And let me tell you, the shrimp at Oepo Port were just as plump and fantastic!

And the reason I keep coming back every week? The sea snails (sora)! They are absolutely delicious. When the owner packs the sea snails, she's so kind – if any look less than perfect, she swaps them out for better ones. That's why I love this place.

I don't usually pay much attention to shrimp paste, but because of the festival, it was quite popular, so I snapped a few pictures.

Autumn is also a great time for male blue crabs, and I considered buying some, but I had so much other food that I decided to pass.

Another reason I highly recommend Dongnam 2-ho is their delicious fermented seafood. Both the fermented squid (ojingeo jeotgal) and fermented octopus (nakji jeotgal) are fantastic, but personally, the fermented octopus is absolutely divine! ❤️

They don't skimp on the octopus, giving you a generous portion that's not just 70% sauce. I really appreciate that! And of course, the seasoning is delicious too! ❤️

As you can see in the picture, they package everything neatly in an insulated bag!

Oepo Port Must-Try Snacks

After you're done shopping at Oepo Port Fermented Seafood Market and step outside, you'll spot a truck just like in the picture. This vendor grills dried filefish (jipo) right on the spot, and it's absolutely divine!

While they're grilling your jipo, they'll keep offering you samples of jipo, peanuts, dried pollack, and squid. Haha! Even after I'd already placed my order, they kept giving my sibling and me samples to enjoy.

The grilled jipo was ~$7 and the peanuts were ~$4, adding an extra ~$11 to my spending. But this jipo and peanut combination is so savory and delicious that I can't resist buying it every time. If you visit Oepo Port Seafood Market, I highly recommend giving it a try!

King Shrimp and Sea Snail Review

The king shrimp were wonderfully large and incredibly fresh. It was actually quite entertaining watching them jump around in the bag on the way home! Haha. Even when we ate them for dinner later that evening, some were still alive. ❤️

As for the sea snails, my parents usually buy about 4.4 pounds (2kg) every week, so I didn't realize until I only bought 2.2 pounds (1kg) myself – I was a bit disappointed I didn't get more! Haha. Dongnam 2-ho is genuinely a place I've visited countless times, and I highly recommend it.
