Today, I’m excited to introduce you to Gahyeonsan Mountain,

one of the best places in Gimpo to witness the vibrant azalea blossoms.

What is Gahyeonsan Mountain?

Gahyeonsan is a mountain situated on the border of Yangchon-eup, Gimpo-si, Gyeonggi-do, and Seo-gu, Incheon Metropolitan City. During the Goryeo Dynasty, it was called “Sangdusan” because its shape resembled an elephant's head. Later, it was also known as “Galhyeonsan” due to the abundance of kudzu vines.

Standing at approximately 706 feet (215.3 meters), it's not a particularly high mountain, making it perfect for a leisurely hike, even with your furry friends!

In early April, the mountain comes alive with a magnificent cluster of azaleas, often hosting an azalea festival, which makes it incredibly popular. Even outside of azalea season, it's an ideal spot for beginner hikers to enjoy expansive, breathtaking views without feeling overwhelmed.

Gahyeonsan Mountain Hiking Trails

Normally, I opt for the Myogaksa Temple Course. However, since I was hiking alone today, I decided to try the Gurae Fishing Pond Course for the first time, as it's known for easier parking.

Gahyeonsan Mountain Parking Information

While there is a parking lot near Gurae Fishing Pond, the entrance road is quite narrow, which might be inconvenient for new drivers. The lot itself isn't very spacious either. Personally, if you're a less experienced driver like me, I recommend the Eunyeoul Park Parking Lot.

Even though Eunyeoul Park Parking Lot doesn't have an abundance of spaces, it's a better option for beginners. Be aware that on weekends, parking spots can fill up quickly, so I suggest arriving early!

Also, Eunyeoul Park has two parking areas (Parking Lot 1 and Parking Lot 2); for Gahyeonsan Mountain, I recommend using Parking Lot 2. Good news: Eunyeoul Park Parking Lot is free!

Once you park at Eunyeoul Park, you’ll immediately see a sign pointing towards Gahyeonsan Mountain right across the street, so you won't get lost trying to find your way. Even if you feel a bit unsure, Gahyeonsan is quite popular with hikers, so you can often just follow the crowd, even on weekdays!

After about a 10-minute walk towards Gahyeonsan, you'll see the Gurae Fishing Pond,

and soon after, the entrance to the Gahyeonsan hiking trail appears.

While I haven't hiked Gahyeonsan frequently, I've always used the Myogaksa Temple Course. This time, however, on the Gurae Fishing Pond Course, I noticed there are exercise machines and even a dust-off machine at the entrance, which is super handy for cleaning off dirt after your hike.

While researching parking for Gahyeonsan, I discovered that many people bring their dogs! So, I decided to bring Lotto along today. Lotto seemed to enjoy sniffing the trees and had no trouble navigating the trail.

As we stopped for some adorable dog photos along the way,

we gradually started to see the first azalea blossoms.

When we felt a little tired, we’d find benches to rest on,

and soon, we reached Gahyeonjeong Pavilion.

The paths are generally well-maintained, making the ascent quite easy. Along the way, I was fascinated by some unique paths formed by exposed tree roots.

Even the resting benches had a variety of interesting shapes. It was surprisingly fun to pick out a different one each time we stopped for a break.

As I admired the wishing stone piles and continued walking,

I finally spotted the Azalea Garden, the main reason for our visit to Gahyeonsan today! Last year, I visited a bit late and only saw the azaleas fading, but this year (2026), they were just beginning to bloom, and it was a spectacular sight!

It feels like there might be fewer azaleas compared to two years ago, but Gahyeonsan still remains the most beautiful place in Gimpo to enjoy these stunning spring flowers.

Since this was Lotto's first-ever mountain hike, we absolutely had to take some commemorative photos, right? We captured some great shots of our Gahyeonsan adventure,

and of course, we took plenty of pictures with the beautiful azaleas, creating some wonderful memories.

✔︎ My Review of Visiting Gahyeonsan Mountain, a Dog-Friendly Azalea Spot in Gimpo

I decided to try this hike because I heard that many people bring their small dogs, as Gahyeonsan isn't too high. Lotto seemed to really enjoy it, so I feel like we made some great memories. It's definitely a place worth visiting with your pet!
