Hello everyone!
It's Minimanimu, your Trip USB, here to share my latest adventure taken during annual leave!
Craving a warm, comforting soup dish,
I recently visited Gaeseong Son Mandu's Incheon Cheongna Direct Branch.
I'd previously enjoyed Gaeseong Son Mandu in my neighborhood,
and while exploring Cheongna, I stumbled upon another branch of the same restaurant.
So, I chose Mandu-Jeongol for lunch.
With generously sized handmade dumplings, fresh vegetables, and even kalguksu noodles,
it turned out to be much more abundant than I expected!
The highlight was the kimchi dumplings, handmade right there, along with the slightly spicy, clear broth.
It was truly impressive at Gaeseong Son Mandu Cuisine Specialty Restaurant, Cheongna Direct Branch.
I'm excited to share my honest, personal review!

How to Make a Reservation
Gaeseong Son Mandu Cuisine Specialty Restaurant, Cheongna Direct Branch,
is a popular spot for family dinners and group meals.
If you're visiting with a large group,
or planning to visit during peak meal times on weekends,
it's highly recommended to call the restaurant in advance to check reservation availability
before you arrive!
Exterior / Interior
If you pass by Cheongna Middle School,
you'll easily spot the Gaeseong Son Mandu sign right on the roadside.

Stepping inside, you'll find a waiting area,
and even complimentary coffee available for after your meal.

We visited around 4 PM, between lunch and dinner.
Since there's no separate break time, we were able to enjoy our meal even at this awkward hour,
and were seated immediately without any waiting.

At Gaeseong Son Mandu Cuisine Specialty Restaurant,
they meticulously prepare all dishes in-house, including the dumplings,
and the broth is simmered twice daily.
Near the entrance,
you can even watch the staff hand-making the dumplings,
which certainly assures you of their quality and freshness.

The interior is primarily arranged with four-person tables,
making it suitable for group visits,
and indeed, we saw many families dining there during our visit.

Menu & My Order
At Gaeseong Son Mandu,
the menu is wonderfully straightforward.
Their signature dishes are Mandu-Jeongol and Son Mandu (Handmade Dumplings)!

My Order
·Mandu-Jeongol ~$8 * 4
My Experience
Once your order is placed,
you'll be served danmuji (pickled radish) and geotjeori (fresh kimchi) as complimentary side dishes.
While the side dishes are simple,
the Mandu-Jeongol itself is incredibly generous with its vegetables, dumplings, and kalguksu noodles,
so you won't feel like anything is missing during your meal.

After a short wait, the star of our show, Mandu-jeongol (dumpling hot pot), arrived!
The large hot pot was brimming with a delightful variety of vegetables,
including rice cakes, bok choy, mushrooms, zucchini, and napa cabbage.

While the Mandu-jeongol already comes with dumplings inside,
they also serve generous handmade dumplings and kalguksu (knife-cut noodles)
on a separate plate.

Once the broth starts to boil,
you wait until the vegetables soften,
then use tongs and scissors to cut them into bite-sized pieces.

Generous Kimchi Mandu, Made Fresh Daily
At Gaeseong Son Mandu, they specialize in one kind of dumpling: kimchi mandu.
The dumpling skins are packed to the brim with filling,
and they're so huge you might even find them a challenge to eat in one bite!

A Lightly Spicy and Clean Broth
While the broth looks clear and mild on the surface,
it has a subtle kick from the chili seeds used in the stock, giving it a pleasantly spicy finish.
It's not an aggressively spicy or heavy broth,
making it easy to keep enjoying the vegetables and dumplings without feeling overwhelmed.

Finishing with Kalguksu Noodles
Even though I was quite full after just two dumplings,
the grand finale of Mandu-jeongol simply has to be kalguksu!

The portion of kalguksu noodles was incredibly generous,
and despite being utterly stuffed, I just couldn't put my chopsticks down from this amazing Mandu-jeongol!

Overall Review
Gaeseong Son Mandu Yo-ri Jeonmunjeom Cheongna Branch was truly a gem,
where we savored generous, handmade kimchi dumplings alongside a subtly spicy and clear broth.
With its hearty combination of vegetables, dumplings, and kalguksu noodles,
it was a truly satisfying meal that offered incredible value for its generous portions.
What's even better is that they operate without a break time,
making it super convenient to visit even during those awkward hours between lunch and dinner.
If you're craving a comforting bowl of warm soup,
why not treat yourself to a hearty meal at Gaeseong Son Mandu Yo-ri Jeonmunjeom,
the renowned Mandu-jeongol spot in Cheongna, Incheon?

Gaesung Son Mandu Incheon Cheongna Direct Branch operates daily from 10:30 AM to 8:40 PM, with the last order at 7:50 PM. There are no separate break times, so you can enjoy a meal even during the hours between lunch and dinner.
At Gaesung Son Mandu Restaurant Cheongna Direct Branch, you can use the dedicated parking lot for Gyeongbokgung Samgyetang & Gaesung Son Mandu located behind the building. If the dedicated parking lot is full, you can use a nearby public parking lot.
The Mandu-jeongol at Gaesung Son Mandu Cheongna Direct Branch features one type of large, handmade kimchi dumpling. The hotpot contains various vegetables such as tteok (rice cakes), bok choy, mushrooms, zucchini, and cabbage, and kalguksu (knife-cut noodles) are also served separately.
The Mandu-jeongol broth appears clear and light, but its distinguishing feature is a slightly spicy kick at the end, due to the use of chili seeds in the broth. It's not overpoweringly spicy or heavy, so you can continue to enjoy the vegetables and dumplings without feeling overwhelmed.
