Flat Iron: Reservation & Recommended Menu

If you're planning a trip to London, UK,
you've probably heard the common saying,
'the food is really bad.'
I also went on my trip with absolutely no expectations
for British food, but to my surprise,
I found some really delicious places!
Today, I'll be sharing our experience and recommended menu items
from one of those spots: Flat Iron, a fantastic value restaurant in London!

The branch I visited is 📍 Flat Iron Southbank, located near the London Eye.
It's about a 10-minute walk from the London Eye,
making it a great place to combine with your visit there.
Flat Iron is so popular that I anticipated a wait, so
I made a reservation the day before my visit via Google Maps.
The Southbank branch seemed quite spacious, making walk-ins look possible,
but just in case, I still recommend making a reservation!
Flat Iron Southbank had plenty of terrace and indoor seating,
large enough to accommodate over 100 people.
I was worried because other branches are known to be smaller with long waits, but this branch felt wonderfully spacious.
We chose a window seat as the weather was a bit chilly,
but if it's warm, you could sit on the terrace and soak in the London city vibe.

The most straightforward item to order here is the
Flat Iron Steak for 15 pounds.
At approximately ~$20, it's excellent value for a steak.
Order one steak per person,
then add side dishes,
sauces, beer, or wine to go with it.
We ordered two Flat Iron Steaks,
the Truffle Macaroni Cheese, and beer!
Before our main courses arrived, our server
brought us popcorn and water.
The popcorn was surprisingly salty and savory, making it impossible to stop eating.
Just a heads-up, the water is free, but it's tap water!
The Pillars Helles beer we ordered was crisp and
had a smooth finish, making it a beer I think most people would enjoy.
We tried it because a staff member recommended it,
and it suited our taste so much that we wanted another glass!
If you're wondering which beer to order,
I think you should definitely give it a try.
Our ordered steak and truffle macaroni cheese
arrived about 15 minutes later.
There's no separate salad served, so if you want to eat some vegetables,
you'll need to order a salad separately.
We asked for medium-rare,
and while it was quite juicy, it was incredibly tender.
Plus, it was sliced thinly, making it easy to eat.
Salt and pepper are readily available on the table,
so you can season your food to your liking.
Personally, I found that adding pepper
really helped balance out the richness of the meat!
Next up is a side dish I highly recommend ordering:
the Truffle Macaroni Cheese!
Someone I met at a Korean guesthouse highly recommended it,
so I ordered it, and I absolutely want to recommend it to everyone.
The combination of gooey cheese, cream, and macaroni,
enhanced with truffle aroma, gave it a truly luxurious flavor.
What's more, it was topped with crispy crumbles,
adding a delightful crunchiness!
The macaroni paired perfectly with the steak, but it was also delicious on its own.
Even though two of us shared one portion,
it was so good that if I go again, I'd want one macaroni per person!
After finishing your meal, when you ask for the bill,
they give you a cute miniature knife for each steak ordered.
You can exchange these for ice cream!
Though we didn't have high expectations for the ice cream,
after enjoying the steak and rich macaroni,
it was the perfect palate cleanser, leaving our mouths feeling fresh.
The chocolate powder sprinkled on top was definitely the 'kick'.
I highly recommend having it with the sprinkles.
For two steaks, one macaroni, and one beer,
▶️ it came out to 45.2 GBP, or approximately ~$59.
Considering the high cost of living in London, this price range
felt like excellent value for money.
What's more, both the steak and macaroni
the taste is excellent, so I think most of you will be really satisfied.
If you're usually a fan of creamy pasta,
you absolutely have to order the macaroni!
Since there are so many Flat Iron branches scattered across central London,
find a nearby branch that fits perfectly into your travel itinerary.
I highly recommend booking in advance before you visit!

Flat Iron Southwark operates from 12 PM to 10 PM on Sundays and Mondays, and from 12 PM to 10:30 PM on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. From Thursday to Saturday, it is open from 12 PM to 11 PM.
Flat Iron Southwark is very popular and may have a waiting line, so it's recommended to make a reservation in advance via Google Maps the day before your visit. While the restaurant is spacious and walk-ins seem possible, reservations are advised.
The main dish, the Flat Iron Steak, costs 15.0 pounds, and the recommended side dish, Truffle Macaroni Cheese, costs 5.5 pounds. Other side dishes include Garlic Mash, Creamed Spinach, and Green Salad.
