- The WEM Halloween Trick-or-Treat event began at 3 PM in the mall.

- The Cootie Coaster was a favorite ride for its non-stop thrills with no waiting lines.

This past Halloween on October 31st, 2026, we embarked on an unforgettable adventure to West Edmonton Mall (WEM)! My child is quite the little shadow, always saying, "I only want to play with Mommy!" Navigating such a massive mall alone felt daunting, but thankfully, I'd made plans with a local mom who has two daughters. So, with my husband happily at home (😉), we eagerly hopped in a Lyft early that morning and set off.
This was only my second visit to WEM; the first time was for the Waterpark. It was wonderful to explore the mall at our own pace this time, without feeling rushed.
(Okay, who am I kidding? I was definitely being rushed by my child, who was absolutely buzzing to get on the rides! 😅)
🍔 Step 1: Fuel Up at the London Drugs Food Court!

WEM is so massive, it's easy to get lost! So, we decided to meet up with our friends at the convenient food court near London Drugs.
After a warm reunion, we made sure to fill our stomachs with hearty burger and fry combos before diving into the day's adventures.
Keeping up with kids all day requires serious energy, so fueling up was a must for us moms!
With lunch done, it was time to head straight for the main event: Galaxyland!
🎢 Step 2: The Magic of a Galaxyland Day Pass! (~$67 + tax)

Since it was Halloween, I decided to splurge and get my child a day pass.
The price at the time was ~$67 plus tax!
Oh my goodness... my 7-year-old, hanging out with her friends, was absolutely determined to conquer every ride! She was on a mission!
She tackled almost every ride that met her height requirement. As of yesterday, her absolute favorite thrill ride was the Cootie Coaster.
No exaggeration, I think she rode it well over 15 times! 🤣
The even better news? It seemed most people were there for the trick-or-treating or other Halloween events, so Galaxyland wasn't as crowded as we expected!
There was literally no waiting line for most rides.
Which meant...
[Enter ➔ Ride ➔ Exit ➔ Re-enter]
This cycle was endlessly repeatable!
She'd get off a rollercoaster, immediately get back in line, ride again, get off again... My child was ecstatic, but this mom's soul was utterly drained from all the waiting!
The day pass price initially felt a bit steep, but seeing her ride repeatedly like that, any thought of it being a waste of money vanished completely.
🎃 Step 3: WEM Halloween Trick-or-Treat! Crowds Explode in the Afternoon

After a quick break to catch our breath and regroup, we headed back into the mall to enjoy the WEM Trick-or-Treat event, which kicked off at 3 PM.
The mall had been relatively quiet in the morning.
But while we were 'trapped' in Galaxyland, it seemed like everyone else had appeared out of nowhere! By afternoon, the crowds were absolutely massive!
Still, it was Halloween, and the people-watching was fantastic.
👻 The Joy of Costume-Spotting
Everyone had put so much effort into their costumes! From adorable characters to truly spooky get-ups, just watching the parade of people made the Halloween atmosphere feel incredibly authentic.
🦭 Mascots and Even Seals!
On the bridge spanning the center of the mall, there were costumed characters and mascots lined up, perfect for photo opportunities.
Right next to them, adorable seals were playing with their trainers! It was an unexpected delight.
Discovering these unexpected attractions thrilled both the kids and the adults.
🍬 Store Staff in Full Halloween Spirit!
Even the store employees handing out treats were dressed in Halloween costumes.
Despite being an indoor shopping mall, with candy being given out everywhere and costumed people filling the halls, the Halloween vibe was truly immersive.
However, an unexpected problem arose.
My child, having already discovered the thrill of rollercoasters...
was no longer interested in candy or treats. Instead, she demanded,
"Mom! Forget the candy, let's go back to the rides!!!"
Wait, weren't we here for Halloween candy? 😂
So, we wrapped up our trick-or-treating session fairly quickly and made a beeline back to Galaxyland.
🛍️ Step 4: Maxing Out Rides Until Closing & Finishing with T&T Groceries
And so, Galaxyland Round 2 began!
My child seemed determined to stay until closing, but we finally managed to coax her out around 6 PM.
Galaxyland was open until 7 PM yesterday, so leaving at 6 PM meant we definitely got our money's worth, almost staying until they shut the doors!
On our way out, we stopped by T&T Supermarket to grab some groceries for dinner.
It was a long day that started bright and early, but my child was full of energy until the very end, while I nearly ran out of battery the moment we got home! 😂
💡 WEM Halloween & Galaxyland Day Pass: Our Verdict

When you think of Halloween in Canada, trick-or-treating outdoors through neighborhoods is definitely a classic and fun experience.
However, considering Edmonton's chilly weather in late October, the ability to play indoors all day without worrying about the cold is a huge advantage.
The Galaxyland day pass, in particular, offered incredible value, allowing my child to ride her favorite attractions repeatedly, which made for a very high satisfaction level.
At approximately ~$70 (including tax) for the Galaxyland day pass, it was a day where not a single cent felt wasted!
We enjoyed Halloween trick-or-treating, rode countless rides, and made wonderful memories with friends – it was an absolutely successful day.
Next time, I'm even thinking about combining it with the Waterpark for a full day of fun!
Of course, that's assuming this mom's stamina can hold up! 🤣
If you're wondering how to celebrate Halloween with kids in Edmonton, WEM is definitely an excellent option to consider!
Are you an outdoor trick-or-treater, or do you prefer to celebrate Halloween warmly indoors? 🧡
