Dubrovnik Sunset Kayak Tour 2026: Adriatic Snorkeling & Old Town Views

On my recent trip to Dubrovnik, Croatia,

I decided to try a sunset kayak tour for the very first time.

Let me tell you, paddling across the vast Adriatic Sea and witnessing an unforgettable sunset,

plus snorkeling inside the incredible Betina Cave, which is only accessible by kayak,

I booked the 5:30 PM departure. In Dubrovnik,

most kayak tours, including mine, kick off from the spot marked on the map above, usually around Pile Bay!

The entire tour typically lasts between 2 to 2.5 hours.

📝TIP

If you're aiming for that perfect sunset experience, especially if you're visiting in July or August 2026,

I highly recommend booking a 5:30 PM to 6:00 PM slot!

The departure point is wonderfully picturesque, right next to Bokar Fortress.

Just a heads-up: the meeting point can be busy with various tour operators,

so make sure to double-check your voucher and confirm you're with the correct company!

We set off in tandem kayaks, with about 10 teams joining the adventure.

📝TIP

- You can store your phone and small personal items in a waterproof bag provided on the kayak.

However, I still recommend bringing as little as possible!

- Even if you skip the snorkeling,

expect to get your knees wet when launching the kayak.

Opt for quick-drying shorts or swimwear you don't mind getting soaked.

- If you plan to snorkel, I suggest wearing a bikini with a light shirt over it.

*The sun can be intense out on the open water!

As you paddle out into the open sea,

you'll be treated to a breathtaking panoramic view of Dubrovnik's Old Town

and its magnificent city walls.

This unique perspective, only visible from the water,

truly highlights the magic of a kayak tour!

6:15 PM

Arrival at Betina Cave

Around 40-50 minutes after setting off,

we reached Betina Cave.

It's astonishing to find a cave right in the middle of the sea –

I found it absolutely fascinating! Pulling up to it in our kayaks made the experience feel even more spectacular.

Our guide helped us dock, making it super easy.

We had about 30 minutes for snorkeling in Betina Cave,

and all the gear was provided, which was incredibly convenient.

I truly can't recommend snorkeling in Betina Cave enough!

The water is crystal clear, and you'll spot some beautiful fish!

It gets deep quickly, but even if you're not a strong swimmer,

you can wear a life jacket and enjoy it safely.

Plus, I saw some brave souls cliff diving – talk about an adrenaline rush!

Look up inside the cave, and you'll see an opening in the ceiling

with buildings visible above – it's such a unique sight!

My friend and I felt so lucky, thinking about how we'd never experience something like this without the kayak tour!

7:40 PM

Sunset Begins

By 7:40 PM, roughly 30 minutes after leaving Betina Cave,

the magic began as the sun started to dip below the horizon.

How often do you get to witness a sunset from the middle of the vast Adriatic Sea?

My friend and I were absolutely mesmerized, just staring in awe for what felt like ages.

The other groups were just as captivated by the sunset,

and we all took photos together.

Our guide did an excellent job of organizing everyone,

fostering a comfortable and friendly atmosphere among all the participants.

I even swapped photos with some fellow travelers via chat afterward!

I noticed couples, families, and even kids enjoying the kayaks.

It's a pretty accessible activity, making it a fantastic memory for almost anyone on their trip.

After experiencing that breathtaking sunset, I can't recommend the sunset kayak tour enough – it's truly enchanting!!!

On the way back, I was quite tired and ended up being the last one in our group,

but our guide stayed with me the entire time, checking in repeatedly to make sure I was okay,

and their encouragement really helped me push through to the end!

If you're a bit nervous about the water, kayaking might seem daunting at first,

but having such a professional and caring guide ensures you can enjoy the experience without fear!

Even past 8:30 PM, European evenings stay bright for quite a while in summer,

so it never felt scary or unsafe on our return. We got back safely with plenty of light left!
