exploring the Dubrovnik Old Town City Walls,

along with must-see attractions along the route.

Plus, I will reveal a brilliant strategy

to stretch a 1-day Dubrovnik Pass across two days,

Because the stone walls completely encircle

the entire historic Old Town,

you can start your loop around the 1.2-mile ramparts

from three different spots:

1. Pile Gate

This is the most popular starting point.

It sits right at the main transportation hub of the Old Town,

making it extremely easy to access if you are arriving

by local bus or taxi from outside the city walls.

2. Ploce Gate

Located on the eastern side near the Dominican Monastery,

Ploce Gate is generally much quieter than Pile Gate.

Starting here treats you to immediate harbor views.

If your accommodation is on the east side of town

or if you plan to head to Banje Beach afterward,

this is your best bet.

3. St. John’s Fortress (Maritime Museum)

Tucked inside the old harbor area,

this entrance is rarely noticed by casual tourists.

It offers the quietest start and the gentlest initial climb.

If you are already wandering deep inside the Old Town

and want to transition smoothly to the walls, use this entrance.

2. Individual Ticket Purchase

Ticket booths are located at each gate entrance.

However, a single-entry ticket to the walls costs about $38 (35 EUR),

which is exactly the same price as a 1-day Dubrovnik Pass.

Buying the individual ticket makes no financial sense

when the pass gets you into multiple museums and includes free bus rides!

out of a standard 1-day ticket.

Leverage the 24-hour rolling activation window.

The 1-day Dubrovnik Pass is valid for exactly 24 hours

from the exact minute you first scan it.

If you activate your pass in the afternoon of Day 1,

it remains active until that same time on Day 2.

Because the walls have absolutely no shade,

walking them under the midday Adriatic sun

can be exhausting and uncomfortably hot.

The absolute sweet spot is to enter

right when the gates open in the morning.

To execute this perfectly: activate your pass around 2:00 PM on Day 1

to visit the Rector's Palace, Franciscan Monastery, and other museums.

Then, on Day 2, head to the City Walls at 8:00 AM sharp.

Your pass will still be completely valid!
