To be honest, Dotgabi Buljukkumi is located in an area I don't visit often, so it wasn't originally on my radar. However, while my youngest sibling and I were traveling in Shanghai, my other sibling took our parents here and they couldn't stop raving about it! Naturally, I had to see what the hype was about, so I finally made the trip.

I’d heard it was popular, but wow—the crowd was real! Usually, you don't see massive waiting lines in Yanggok, so seeing a crowd here was a brand-new experience. We even pulled waiting ticket number 21!

These days, I usually skip restaurants with long waits and head elsewhere, but today, I decided to wait it out. And boy, am I glad I did.

Since it’s a highly sought-after local gem, the dining hall was packed. You don't get to choose your seating; you just get seated as soon as a table clears up.

But talk about luck—we ended up with a cozy corner table by the window! It felt like a little private sanctuary away from the bustling crowd, allowing us to enjoy our meal in peace.

Ordering is super convenient using the tablet right at your table. You can browse through the photos of each dish before making your choice.

If you prefer a quick glance at the entire menu, they also have a massive menu board mounted on the wall. We decided to start big with the Spicy Octopus Hot Plate (Large) (approx. ~$42).

At first glance, you might wonder, 'Is this really a large portion?' But as we started eating, we realized just how generous it was. Best of all, the webfoot octopus pieces were incredibly plump, tender, and meaty—not just a plate full of vegetables, but actual, high-quality seafood! No wonder people gladly stand in line for this.

If you run low on side dishes, there's a fully stocked self-serve bar. Because the restaurant gets incredibly busy, some bowls might run empty occasionally, but the staff is incredibly quick to refill them the moment you ask.

If a restaurant offers fried rice to finish off a hot plate, you *must* order it. We tossed in some rice to mix with the remaining savory, spicy sauce, and it was absolutely heavenly.

Once you've cleared your plates, you can grab a cup of hot coffee,

or treat yourself to vanilla and chocolate ice cream from the freezer. It was the absolute perfect sweet ending to a fiery meal!

Another fantastic feature of Dotgabi Buljukkumi is their self-packaging station. If you can't finish your meal, they provide containers so you can easily pack up your leftovers to enjoy later.
