Hi everyone, I'm travel blogger Lisa!
Today, I want to introduce you to
a beautiful little village just a 20-minute
ferry ride away from downtown Auckland—
Devonport!
When I was on my Working Holiday in New Zealand,
Devonport was easily one of
my absolute favorite spots.

In particular, watching the
beautiful Auckland sunset and
night view from here is an absolute must-do
experience on your trip to New Zealand.
So, let’s dive right into
how you can make the most of your day in Devonport!

1. Just a 20-Minute Ferry Ride: The Must-Visit Auckland Getaway, Devonport.
Devonport is one of the easiest day trips
you can take from downtown Auckland,
boasting fantastic accessibility—it's only
a quick 20-minute ferry ride away.

✅ Auckland Britomart to Devonport Ferry
📍Departure: Britomart Station Ferry Terminal
⏰Travel Time: 15–20 minutes one-way
💰Fare: Round trip 14.8 NZD, approx. ~$8
To pay for the ferry,
you can use Auckland's public transit card, the AT HOP card,
or you can simply use any credit/debit card
that supports contactless tap payments.
✔️ Travel Wallet and Travelog cards work too!
Just tap on and tap off when boarding and exiting the ferry.

The view of the Auckland skyline
from the ferry ride and from Devonport itself
is absolutely stunning.
2. The Charm of Devonport, Auckland

Devonport is a quaint and charming village
that feels like a small British seaside town.

The vibe is incredible—as soon as you step off the ferry,
you're greeted by sandy beaches, lush greenery,
and locals enjoying relaxed meals
on outdoor terraces.
📍Recommended Walking Route
1️⃣ Stroll along Victoria Road
2️⃣ Walk along the Devonport beaches
3️⃣ Hike up Mount Victoria (about 20 minutes)

⭐️On your way to Mount Victoria,
there's a lovely little ice cream shop.

Since New Zealand is world-famous for its dairy,
trying a scoop of ice cream is an absolute must!
The rich, creamy flavor is out of this world.
3. Recommended Spot for Auckland Sunsets & Night Views

Without a doubt, the ultimate highlight
of visiting Devonport in Auckland
is watching the sunset
from Mount Victoria.
It only takes about 15 to 20 minutes
to walk to the top,
making it an easy and rewarding stroll.

Once you reach the summit here,
you'll be treated to a stunning panoramic view
of downtown Auckland right across the harbor,
stretching all the way to the iconic Sky Tower skyline.

Especially around sunset,
the moment the sky gets painted in warm, golden hues
is absolutely breathtaking.

If you head up at the right time to enjoy the sunset
and make your way back down to the ferry terminal,
you'll find the area has transformed into a gorgeous night view spot.

And the best part? You get to enjoy those glittering city lights from the ferry on your way back.
4. Quick Tips for Visiting Devonport

Devonport is such a peaceful and laid-back town,
making it perfect for solo travelers, couples, or even honeymooners.
Though for me, it was a family trip this time...! haha
Back when I was here on my working holiday, I used to visit often
just to sit back and watch the sunset.

A relaxed 5 to 6 hours
is more than enough time to explore. My tip?
There are plenty of lovely local brunch cafes and cozy pubs
dotted around Mount Victoria,
so it's a fantastic place to grab a bite to eat.
5. How to Get Discounts on Auckland Ferries

If you're planning a trip to Auckland, New Zealand,
I highly recommend taking a ferry
to explore some of the surrounding areas,
including Devonport.

Among them, the most popular spot
is just a 40-minute ferry ride away:
New Zealand's famous wine island,
Waiheke Island.
As the home of incredible white wines and Sauvignon Blanc,
you can sip on exquisite wines at various local boutique wineries
while soaking in the stunning island landscapes.
You can grab your Waiheke ferry tickets
