1. Your Perfect Stay Near Cathedral Cove, New Zealand: Hahei Holiday Resort

Cathedral Cove, a breathtaking natural wonder,
is nestled on the Coromandel Peninsula on New Zealand's stunning North Island.
In fact, when you picture iconic New Zealand travel scenes,
chances are the stunning backdrop you're imagining is none other than
Cathedral Cove itself!
But here's a crucial tip: since vehicle access to this protected area is restricted,
your choice of accommodation can dramatically impact the ease of your exploration!

The accommodation I chose for this trip is perfectly situated
near Cathedral Cove, right by Hahei Beach.
Since most tours to the area depart from Hahei Beach,
making this your home base for exploration is incredibly convenient!

Plus, it's a super close 10-minute drive from Hot Water Beach!
And for that essential Hot Water Beach experience of digging your own thermal pool,
you'll need a shovel – but guess what?
You can borrow one for free right here at the resort!

With fantastic BBQ facilities available,
you can savor delicious New Zealand beef and lamb.
And imagine this: at night, you can gaze up at the countless stars
sparkling over Hahei Beach – it's an absolutely unforgettable and romantic experience!

2. My Review of the Hahei Holiday Resort Family Cottage
The Hahei Holiday Resort truly offers
a wonderful array of accommodation types.
I hadn't quite expected it, but
I was genuinely surprised by how incredibly spacious our cottage was!

I get the feeling that anyone staying at Hahei Beach
would gather right here... haha!

There were rooms with private bathrooms,
cabin-style rooms without them,
and you could even just bring your campervan to stay!
Since we're a family of four,
we booked a Family Cottage room.

As a family of four, and with my husband along,
we definitely needed at least two rooms,
but the Family Cottage actually had three rooms!

It was incredibly spacious for four people,
and my parents absolutely loved it too.
The sunlight poured so beautifully into our accommodation
that we ended up drying our laundry in the extra room...

What's more, with a kitchen and BBQ facilities,
it was a much-needed option in New Zealand, where dining out can be expensive.
Having a BBQ at a New Zealand campsite
is a lot more fun and unique than you might expect,
so if you're coming to Cathedral Cove,
definitely consider Hahei Holiday Resort.

Anyway, the Family Cottage room
came with a private toilet and bathroom,
as well as a washing machine,
so we could immediately wash our clothes after a swim in the ocean.

specific conditions, please check out the video above!
3. New Zealand Auckland Day Trips - Our 2-Day Itinerary

So, staying at our accommodation in Hahei Beach,
I'll share the itinerary we followed for our New Zealand Auckland day trip :)

Day 1
The day before, we had made our way over to Hahei Beach,
aiming to visit Cathedral Cove and Hot Water Beach
from the Rotorua area.
(Departure from Auckland is also possible)
Rotorua - Tauranga (Lunch) - Check-in
- Hahei Beach - Hot Water Beach - BBQ
Day 1 Itinerary

Even if you're coming from Auckland,
you can arrive in just 2.5 to 3 hours,
so if you're planning to explore by rental car,
it's super easy to visit!

Hot Water Beach is a unique beach where
you can literally find hot natural springs bubbling up right on the seashore.
If you time your visit perfectly with low tide,
you can dig into the sand and,
in certain spots, hot geothermal spring water will rise up!
Just mix this hot water with the cool ocean water
to create your very own, free natural hot pool!
⚠️ Good news! The shovels you'll need for digging in the sand
can be rented for free at the hotel!

The low tide times were conveniently posted in the hotel lobby,
so we checked them and timed our visit to Hot Water Beach perfectly!
💓For more detailed information about Hot Water Beach,
I'll be sure to write a separate post later!💓
After enjoying the warm natural hot springs at Hot Water Beach,
we headed back to our accommodation for a fantastic New Zealand-style BBQ party!

We realized we didn't have any cooking foil,
so we had to grab some from a local shop nearby.
Pro tip: it would be a good idea to prepare your cooking foil
before you arrive!
After a delicious dinner,
we stepped out onto the beach right in front of us
and watched the night sky explode with stars, marking the perfect end to our day.

The stars in New Zealand's night sky
truly looked like they were pouring down...! It was absolutely breathtaking!
This is how they looked, captured with just my phone camera! 🌟🌟
