In September, Zagreb's weather typically sees high temperatures around 73°F and lows around 54°F. It's generally a pleasant time to visit, neither too hot nor too cold.

While you'll still spot plenty of locals in short-sleeved tops or even tank tops, a good number of people wear long pants. Even if the afternoons feel warm, the evenings cool down, so definitely pack a light cardigan or a long-sleeved shirt.

Even at Plitvice Lakes, you'll need long sleeves. I wore a thin short-sleeved top under a denim jacket, which was perfect for layering when it got chilly in the shade.

Keep in mind that I tend to get cold easily, so if you're someone who handles heat well, you might be perfectly comfortable in just a short-sleeved top.

Split is located about 162 miles south of Zagreb. While the high temperatures are similar, around 73°F, the low temperatures are noticeably warmer at about 63°F, making it feel much toastier.

While I managed okay in Zagreb, I truly regretted my clothing choices once I hit Split. The vibe here is completely resort-like, and my autumn knits, thick jeans, and denim jacket from Plitvice felt totally out of place. The weather is warm enough for just short-sleeved tops and shorts!

The thinnest clothes I brought were a striped shirt and a skirt, and I was still sweating buckets in them! I couldn't believe it when I saw people swimming at the beach – my packing strategy was clearly way off.

Overall, just pack clothes you'd wear during a summer vacation, and maybe one or two light outer layers for the evenings.

Dubrovnik, located even further south than Split, experiences high temperatures around 75°F and lows around 64°F. While the numbers don't seem vastly different, it felt significantly hotter than Split.

I eventually couldn't stand it and bought new clothes here – a resort dress, something I rarely wear back home. My existing wardrobe simply couldn't handle the heat!

I ended up wearing my tank tops, which I'd originally packed as undershirts, as my main tops. If you're planning a trip to Dubrovnik, I highly recommend packing plenty of tank tops!

Croatia is a beautiful country, a favorite vacation spot even for Europeans! While September might not be as scorching as July or August, Croatia's September weather is still very much summer-like.
