Having experienced it firsthand, I can confidently say that Course H was incredibly satisfying, even when compared to other routes,
so I definitely want to recommend it!

Booking Your Visit
Plitvice Lakes National Park limits the number of daily visitors,
so it's absolutely essential to book your date and time slot in advance.
We made sure to book our tickets from home in Korea before arriving.
To avoid the crowds and fully immerse ourselves in the natural beauty,
we booked the earliest 7 AM entry tickets.
You can easily book your tickets through the official website below.

When we arrived at the shuttle boarding area around 7:45 AM,
it was still pleasantly uncrowded.
🚗 Parking & Navigation Tips

For our visit to Plitvice Lakes National Park,
we used Entrance 2.
Entrance 2 offers a spacious parking lot and is conveniently close to the starting point of Course H.
In summer, parking in a shaded spot is an absolute must! ☀️
Parking in the shade meant our car stayed cool,
which was a huge relief after our hike!
Parking is not included with your entrance ticket,
so you'll need to pay separately on-site.
When you enter the parking lot, you'll receive a ticket.
Just remember to
pay at a pre-payment machine before you leave!
The parking duration is automatically calculated based on your entry time.
📌 A Quick Look at Plitvice's Hiking Trails

Plitvice Lakes National Park offers various hiking trails,
broadly categorized into five main types,
with routes labeled A through K.
The most popular trails, allowing you to explore the entire park, are
Course C and Course H.
The other routes cover only specific sections of the park.
Keep in mind that each course has a different starting point, so it's crucial to know which entrance to use!
Courses A / B / C / K Start at: Entrance 1
Courses E / F / H Start at: Entrance 2
Plitvice: Courses A & B
Total Duration: 2-3 hours

A/B Course: This course offers a brief tour of only the lower lakes.
It's perfect if you only have 2-3 hours,
and it's a great option for a quick taste of the park as it's often busy and covers a shorter route.
If you don't have much time in your schedule,
the A/B courses are a fantastic way to explore quickly.
Plitvice K Course
Total estimated time: 6-8 hours

K Course: This course covers the entire park on foot.
It's a walking loop that doesn't use the ferry or shuttle,
and is known as the longest course.
Highly recommended for those who love a long trek!
Plitvice C Course
Total estimated time: 3-4 hours

The C Course is the most popular route,
allowing you to see a vast expanse from the lower to the upper lakes,
and it's a course that includes both a boat ride and shuttle.
It boasts stunning scenery, and the beginning of the course is downhill,
which is why it's so incredibly popular!
As it's the most sought-after course,
departures between 10 AM and 12 PM
can be quite crowded and bustling.
Plitvice E/F Course
Total estimated time: 2-4 hours
The E and F Courses
are similar to the A/B Courses we discussed earlier,
as they both explore a portion of the park around Entrance 2.
E is a course that focuses solely on the upper valley,
while F takes you by boat to see the magnificent Veliki Slap (Big Waterfall).

Plitvice H Course
Total estimated time: 3-4 hours

H Course: This course follows the exact same path as the C Course but in the opposite direction,
meaning it's generally less crowded.
If you start in the morning, you can enjoy an incredibly peaceful and private experience!
I think the biggest advantage of the H Course is definitely the lack of crowds.
When I visited, I found that as you head towards Entrance 1 in the latter half of the course,
the scenery definitely loses a bit of its charm when it gets busier.

The course perfectly blends forest trails and lakeside paths,
with many charming little routes that are simply perfect for photos.

Towards the end of the course,
you'll discover the most magnificent waterfall, Veliki Slap.
You'll want to see it when the sun is shining brightly on it!
I chose the H Course, and I was absolutely delighted with my experience.
✅Total Time Spent
Taking our time, we even enjoyed a packed lunch along the way,
and including our meal break,
the course took us about 4 hours.
While the official information might suggest longer durations,
you might find, once you start walking, that you can explore it faster than you expect!
H Course Detailed Review & Why I Recommend It

While Plitvice offers a variety of courses,
the H Course stands out because:
✔ Fewer people start this route, making it wonderfully serene.
You begin by taking a shuttle bus to the upper reaches of the valley,
and then descend towards the lower areas,
allowing you to comfortably enjoy the scenery without breaking a sweat!
After leisurely exploring the upper valley on the left side of Plitvice,
as you descend, you'll encounter those who started the C Course.
They'll all be making their way up the valley,
and some seemed a bit tired.

✔ With a perfect mix of lakeside and forest paths,
you'll stroll along charming and picturesque trails.
✔ By utilizing both the ferry and shuttle bus,
you can efficiently cover a vast area, offering incredible value for your time!
🚶♀️ H Course Travel Tips
Pro Tip 1
Choose the earliest possible entry time.
We purchased tickets for the very first entry slot at 7 AM,
and boarded the shuttle bus around 7:45 AM.
The group that departed with us on the shuttle bus consisted of about 20-30 people,
but since the park itself is so vast, it felt almost like we had the trails all to ourselves.
The total time we spent was around 4 hours,
and there were plenty of benches along the way, making it easy to rest.

There's a section where you travel by ferry,
After getting off the ferry, there was a restaurant and a spacious open area
where we could use the restrooms (free)
and even grab a quick meal.
Pro Tip 2
Pack Your Own Meal in Advance
The restaurant prices were quite steep, with a single burger costing around 9 to 11 Euros,
so I highly recommend packing a simple lunch from a supermarket or sandwich shop the day before.
We brought sandwiches, cherries, and flat peaches to enjoy.
There are plenty of communal tables and chairs available,
so you don't need to worry about finding a spot.

Another great advantage of the H-course is
that you can always find a spacious seat when boarding the ferry.
On our trip, there were only about 10 people on a 100-person capacity boat,
making for a super comfortable journey.
However, in the opposite direction, those taking the C-course experienced a bottleneck at the ferry terminal,
with a really long queue of people waiting.
It looked like there were over 100 people waiting, at a glance.
Pro Tip 3
Bring Plenty of Water
While there are restaurants inside Plitvice,
the meal prices are quite high.
As I mentioned, it's best to prepare your food in advance.
Plus, there are no supermarkets or convenience stores anywhere along the course! ㅠㅠ
So, for essential trekking items like water and energy bars,
I recommend bringing plenty.
If you're coming from the directions of Zagreb or Zadar,
I suggest stopping at a supermarket beforehand.
📷 Recommended Photo Spots
As you walk the H-course, you'll find so many amazing places to take photos!

Among them, the 70m high waterfall you see at the end,
along with the beautiful pathway, are absolute must-captures.
The combination of the flowing water and the lush green path was truly picturesque.
I've linked the exact photo spot locations on the map below,
so make sure to save it and capture some stunning photos!

🌤 Recommended Attire

I visited in July,
and while it was incredibly hot during the day,
the mornings were surprisingly cool, even a bit chilly!
However, bringing shorts and a light jacket or cover-up worked perfectly.
There were more shaded areas along the course than I expected,
which made trekking quite comfortable even in the midday sun.
✔ Recommended Attire: Shorts + Light shirt or windbreaker +
Comfortable walking shoes
Plitvice H-Course Summary Tips
✅ If you want to enjoy a peaceful, private experience,
the H-course is a must!
✅ Enter early in the morning and take the first shuttle
to avoid crowds and trek to the sound of birdsong.
✅ Conveniently, there are resting areas, restrooms, and dining spots
throughout the course!
✅ However, make sure to bring plenty of food and drinks in advance.
✅ Don't miss a photo op at the final 70m waterfall!
If you're planning a trip to Plitvice,
I highly recommend the H-course! 🩵
