My Visit Experience
As you first step into Rastoke, this charming little village adorned with cascading waterfalls,
you'll immediately spot a historic watermill to your left.
It was truly fascinating to witness the mill in action,
powered purely by the force of the water!
However, there was a tinge of sadness, as this is a craft slowly fading into history.
There are no longer any artisans left who possess the skill to build watermills,
hinting at a future where this beautiful tradition might disappear.

You can also see various traditional farming tools that were once used to grind grains,
harnessing the powerful energy of the watermill.

Past the mill and across a small stream,
as you venture a little further inwards,
you'll discover the small waterfalls that are truly iconic to Rastoke.
We even found charming little photo spots
scattered along the way,
and since there weren't too many people,
it looked like an ideal place to set up a tripod and get some fantastic pictures!
We also spent quite a while taking photos of each other at various points along the way,
and honestly, compared to the actual size of Rastoke,
we ended up staying much longer than we expected!

In this peaceful village,
the symphony of birdsong, the gentle murmur of the stream, and the soothing rush of small waterfalls
creates an atmosphere that truly puts your mind at ease.

If you're truly passionate about photography,
I highly recommend setting up your tripod in front of the waterfalls
and experimenting with long-exposure shots – they turn out absolutely breathtaking!
Give it a try!

If you cross the charming wooden bridge with the magnificent waterfalls as your backdrop,
you'll feel like you've stepped right into an old fairy tale book!

The same hydraulic turbines we spotted earlier at the mill
are cleverly placed throughout the area, powering delightful little figures that spin and come to life – it's such a charming detail!

Recommended Itinerary Tip
If your itinerary takes you south from the capital, Zagreb,
I highly recommend making a stop at 'Rastoke Village'
before you even reach Plitvice – it's a perfect prelude!
However, if you've already experienced the grandeur of Plitvice
and your route is heading north towards Zagreb,
your standards for natural beauty will likely have been set incredibly high!
In that case, you might want to consider skipping Rastoke
and adding a different nearby destination
to your itinerary instead.
