An Honest Review After Swimming at Every Single Beach on Hvar

Today, I'm excited to share my favorite part

of my Croatia trip:

the stunning beaches of Hvar Island!

Since I was deeply obsessed with freediving back then,

I set a massive goal: "Let's visit every beach on Hvar!"

Here is my honest, firsthand experience from that adventure.

From the highly famous spots that are actually a bit overrated,

to the quiet, hidden gems with perfect water conditions—

I'll review every single one of them in detail.

Introducing Hvar Island

When planning my trip to Croatia,

the destination I looked forward to most was Hvar Island.

Boasting the most sunshine in the entire country,

it's proudly nicknamed the 'Island of the Sun.'

Unlike the mainland cities,

Hvar blends the scent of endless lavender fields,

the emerald-blue Adriatic Sea,

and glamorous yachts

into a truly luxurious, dreamy atmosphere.

What's more, it has so many secret beaches

that it has become a famous private getaway

for European celebrities seeking peace.

In fact, the President of Croatia's official summer villa

is located right here on Hvar Island,

proving beyond a doubt that it is

one of the most beautiful places in Croatia! Haha

Hvar Island Beach Locations

Most travelers planning a trip to Hvar

book their accommodation in Hvar Town,

right where the ferry docks.

From there, gorgeous beaches stretch out to both the east and west.

I've personally jumped into every single one

and dived deep to explore.

Let's break down my detailed reviews one by one!

Best of all, every beach is within

easy walking distance in just your swimwear!

We booked an Airbnb located perfectly in the middle,

making it super easy to walk to both

the eastern and western beaches.

The view was absolutely stunning, we could cook our own meals,

and the host was incredibly welcoming and kind.

I highly recommend it!

The Eastern Beaches

1) Pokonji Dol Beach

Located on the eastern side of Hvar,

this is an incredibly vibrant, hip beach

that draws a lively, younger crowd.

However, since you have to hike over a steep hill

from Hvar Town, if your lodging is on the west side,

I highly recommend hopping on a taxi boat

from the harbor instead!

Because it has a very sandy seabed,

this spot isn't the best for freediving,

but it's absolutely perfect for a classic, relaxing swim.

2) Mekicevica Beach

If you walk about 20 minutes further

from Pokonji Dol Beach (Beach #1),

you'll discover an incredibly quiet

and secluded private beach.

When we visited,

there were only about 2 or 3 other groups.

It was so peaceful with just the sound of the gentle waves—

perfect for burying your nose in a book

or enjoying a quiet family swim.

The Western Beaches

3) Beach Falko

Located at the westernmost tip, Falko Beach is

situated right next to the Croatian President's summer villa

that I mentioned earlier.

Since you have to pass by the villa on your way,

they say access can sometimes be restricted depending on security.

Falko Beach has a wide rocky area

stretching out in front of it,

so you can leave your bags on the rocks under the shade of the trees

and enjoy a worry-free swim.

However, the water is a bit deeper here than in other spots,

and there are some waves,

so I highly recommend bringing a life jacket or an inflatable tube!

If you know how to free dive,

the underwater world of fish and sea plants

makes this an absolutely stunning spot.

4) Hula-Hula Beach

Famous as a premier sunset spot, Hula-Hula Beach

has bars lined up right along the shore,

making it the perfect place to sip a cocktail

while watching the sun go down.

It's also located west of Hvar town,

and is about a 20-minute walk away.

The food prices are a bit on the higher side,

but swimming right next to the bar with a cold beer in hand...

it's the ultimate beachside relaxation.

Plus, on one side,

there's an inflatable water park for kids,

so families can enjoy themselves with peace of mind.

5) Bonj Les Bains Beach

The last one, Bonj Les Bains Beach,

is a tiny beach located

on the way to Hula-Hula Beach.

Usually, beaches packed with tourists

don't allow dogs,

but Bonj Beach is pet-friendly!

Though it's smaller than the other spots,

it's more than enough

for a casual, picnic-style dip in the sea.

If we had to pick the absolute best beach

from all the spots we visited on Hvar...

Beach Falko

The underwater view with the sunlight filtering through is just magical,

and it's not crowded at all,

so you can relax, swim, and play

without worrying about your belongings.

As I mentioned earlier,

as long as you can swim,

I truly believe this is the absolute best beach

on Hvar Island.

You absolutely have to experience it for yourself!
