Introducing Zadar
Zadar is a captivating city nestled between Split and Plitvice, often serving as a popular stopover for travelers. Due to Croatia's unique coastline, there aren't many places where you can witness a truly spectacular sunset, making Zadar famous as a prime sunset destination.
Within Zadar's Old Town, you'll find must-visit spots like St. Donatus Church, St. Anastasia Cathedral, and the Zadar Bell Tower. For the ultimate end to your day, head to the Sea Organ around sunset. There, you can listen to the enchanting symphony of waves and organ pipes while watching the sun dip below the horizon – pure magic!

🍯Tip
When searching on Google Maps, I often found it confusing because both traditional markets and supermarkets are simply called 'Market'.
To pinpoint a traditional open-air market in Europe, try searching for 'Green Market' – it usually does the trick!

Right next to Zadar Market, you'll find the Zadar Fish Market. Also, one of the main entrances to Zadar's city walls, the Sea Gate, is nearby, so keep an eye out as you explore the area.
Operating Hours
🔴Daily 7:00 AM ~ 1:00 PM
(Sundays 7:00 AM ~ 12:00 PM)
🔴Heads Up
Many places in Croatia, including markets, operate on reduced hours on Sundays, so plan accordingly!
A Glimpse of Zadar Market
As you first step into the market, you'll see vendors selling locally produced olive oils, various preserves, and cheeses.
✔️Prices range from about ~$3 to ~$16, with various sizes available. They make excellent souvenirs or gifts!

Perhaps it's because Zadar is a coastal city, but the vibrant canvas awnings of the market against the clear blue sky were absolutely stunning.

Seasonal Fruit Picks (Summer 2026)
For summer travelers (July-August) in Croatia, be sure to look for these seasonal fruits:
Cherries
Flat Peaches
Plums (Prunes)
Watermelon
While these were abundant, you'll also find a fantastic selection of other fresh fruits like green grapes, regular peaches, figs, and melons. Honestly, with so much fresh produce, deciding what to buy each time was the hardest part!

Fruits are priced per kilogram (about 2.2 pounds). For two adults, purchasing around 1.1 to 2.2 pounds should be enough for a day's worth of snacks. We grabbed about 1.1 pounds of cherries for ~$5!

Breakfast Menu Recommendation
If you're staying in an Airbnb while traveling, you've probably faced the breakfast dilemma. Cafe breakfasts can be pricey, often running ~$11-~$16 per person.
This time, we discovered a fantastic, affordable takeaway deli right next to Zadar Market that's perfect for a delicious and easy breakfast!
Deli Location
You'll find this deli inside the 'KONZUM' building, right next to Zadar Market. It's easy to spot, with a long display counter filled with various prepared dishes, much like a traditional deli.
📍 Konzum
Ul. Dalmatinskog Sabora 8, 23000, Zadar, Croatia
They offer a wide array of options, from pasta dishes like lasagna to various marinated salads perfect for a light meal.
✔️How to Order
Simply point to the dishes you want and tell the staff the size of the container you prefer. They'll portion it out for you.
The price is calculated by weight. We found that even just two small dishes were enough for a satisfying meal.
We picked up two small dishes for about ~$5.

Our picks were the basil pesto pasta and a refreshing cabbage & corn salad.

Paired with the fresh fruit we bought from Zadar Market, it made for a perfect and easy breakfast!

That concludes my review of Zadar Market! If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment below.
