It's August 2026, and the summer heat is still going strong! On a recent trip to Gangneung, I discovered a gem that perfectly balances affordability with brand-new, spotless facilities: the Confiness Ocean Suite. This hotel is just a quick 5-minute walk from the stunning Sacheonjin Beach, making it an ideal spot for your next coastal getaway.
Designed to function as both a hotel and an officetel, the rooms here offer a layout that’s incredibly family-friendly. For a short one-night stay, having the beach practically at our doorstep was a massive plus – the location truly couldn't be beaten.
I initially booked a mountain view room, but since we visited on a weekday, the hotel upgraded us to an ocean view on the 24th floor! They said it wasn't a 'full' ocean view, but honestly, what more could you ask for? The vibrant, colorful roofs along the beach contrasted beautifully with the deep blue sea, creating a truly picturesque scene.
While Gangwon Province boasts many large resorts, many of them are older. The Confiness Ocean Suite, however, is a new kid on the block, and you can tell! Everything from the fixtures to the facilities felt fresh and new, with that satisfying 'new car' smell.
We stayed in a Superior Suite Double Room, which featured one double bed and a separate 'ondol' style room with a mattress on the floor. This was perfect for our little one, as we didn't have to worry about them rolling off the bed. While not huge, it comfortably slept two children, making it clear this room layout is designed with families in mind.
The kitchenette was equipped with a refrigerator stocked with four bottles of water, along with a rice cooker and a microwave that doubles as an oven. However, do note that pots, pans, dishes, and cutlery are not provided. You can rent a kitchenware set for ~$15 if needed. For our short stay, we didn't plan on cooking much, so this wasn't an issue for us.
True to Gangneung's reputation as a 'City of Coffee,' the room also came with five different flavored cold brew coffees – a delightful touch!
Having read reviews, I came prepared with disposable plates. We whipped up a simple breakfast of toast, nuts, and eggs baked in the oven, paired perfectly with the provided cold brew coffee.
The amenities, including toothpaste, were neatly tucked away in the vanity drawer. I actually discovered them right before checkout – don't make my mistake!
Our child, who skipped their afternoon nap, fell asleep early around 7 PM. We all woke up even before our 6:50 AM alarm, just in time to catch a breathtaking sunrise together from the comfort of our living room.
