On a recent trip to Jeju Island with my dad, we departed from Cheongju Airport. Our flight was scheduled for around noon, so we decided to grab breakfast at a restaurant right inside the airport.

While Cheongju Airport does have a food court (Flavor6), we heard whispers about a renowned spot called Yukgeori Somunnan Mandu. Naturally, we had to check it out for our morning meal!

It might not be immediately obvious, but you'll find it behind the escalator that leads to the food court. It's a bit tucked away, but not hard to find once you know where to look.

The best part? They open bright and early at 6:00 AM! This is absolutely perfect if you're like me and prefer a comforting Korean meal to start your day before a flight. We arrived around 10:00 AM for a late breakfast/early lunch, and it was pleasantly uncrowded, which was a bonus.

Yukgeori Somunnan Mandu has the cozy feel of a small highway rest stop eatery. It's clean, unpretentious, and not overly busy. They even have power outlets for charging your devices and high chairs, making it a decent option if you're traveling with little ones.

The dining area isn't huge, so you might need to leave larger luggage like suitcases outside the main seating area.

Yukgeori Somunnan Mandu Breakfast Experience

While you can certainly find Korean food at Flavor6, I specifically sought out Yukgeori Somunnan Mandu because of its reputation as a 50-year-old traditional eatery. And let me tell you, their Mandu-guk (dumpling soup) was absolutely delicious!

What's more, although a bowl of rice is listed at ~$1 as an extra, each person actually gets a small complimentary bowl of rice with their order. The Mandu-guk portion was quite generous, so I couldn't finish all the rice, but it felt like great value for an airport meal.

My husband ordered a set meal with Tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patties), while my dad and I each opted for just the Mandu-guk. The portions are definitely not small; if we had all ordered sets, we would have had leftovers for sure!

Compared to the Mandu-guk you might find in a generic food court, the broth here was noticeably richer and more savory. The dumplings themselves seemed handmade, with a satisfyingly crisp texture. The kimchi mandu had a pleasant, mild spice.

* Note: You can't choose the flavor of the dumplings in the soup, they come mixed.

Starting your journey with a meal at the airport sets the tone for your whole trip. It's a real bummer to pay a lot for something mediocre. If you're looking for a filling and delicious breakfast, especially if you're traveling with parents who appreciate a hearty Korean meal, or if you simply prefer a traditional Korean dish before your flight, I highly recommend dining at Yukgeori Somunnan Mandu at Cheongju Airport :)
