Hello, fellow travelers!
It's your go-to guide for authentic local experiences and hidden gems.
During my recent trip to Chiang Mai,
one spot at the absolute top of my cafe bucket list
was none other than Bart Coffee.
A close friend who spent a month living in Chiang Mai
raved about how incredible the coffee was here,
and every single review I found online before my trip
echoed the exact same high praise.
However, the catch is that their opening hours are famously unpredictable.
Many travelers have warned that finding the doors open is a complete game of chance.
I walked over with my fingers crossed,
and luckily, today was my lucky day!
Here is my honest review of Bart Coffee,
where I loved the dirty coffee so much that I ordered two cups back-to-back!

Location and Cozy Interior of Bart Coffee
As you wander down the quiet alleyways of the Old City,
you'll spot the tiny, charming storefront of Bart Coffee.

Because of its microscopic size, it’s easy to walk right past it,
but you'll usually find a small crowd of coffee lovers gathered outside to guide you.

The interior is incredibly compact, combining the barista's workspace
and guest seating into one intimate room.
There are only a few stools inside,
and just a single spot set up outside.

When I first arrived, all the seats were taken,
but after a short wait, a spot opened up inside.
Sitting right at the counter let me watch the mesmerizing process
of my coffee being crafted up close.

Menu and How to Order
Bart Coffee is a one-man show, with the owner handling
everything from taking orders to hand-crafting each drink.
My order:
Dirty Coffee (90 THB / approx. $2.60 USD) x 2 cups

Payment is cash-only or via local Thai QR code (PromptPay).
Credit cards are not accepted,
so make sure to carry some small bills with you.

Once your drink is ready,
if you are waiting outside, you'll grab it from the window,
and if you're inside, the owner will serve it directly to your seat.
The service is incredibly warm and welcoming.

Honest Review: The Famous Dirty Coffee
At first glance, the cup seemed a bit small,
and I wondered if the portion would leave me wanting more.
But from the very first sip,
I instantly understood why this place has a cult following.

The first layer hits you with a bold, rich, and nutty espresso bitterness,
quickly followed by the velvety, chilled sweetness of the milk underneath.
It’s perfectly balanced—not too bitter, not overly sweet,
just a beautiful symphony of flavors unfolding in layers.

Knowing how hard it is to catch this place open,
and realizing how small (and delicious) the drink was,
I immediately ordered a second cup.
I've never ordered back-to-back drinks at a cafe before,
but this dirty coffee absolutely warranted it.

Insider Tips for Visiting Bart Coffee
✔️ Check social media or local updates for opening status before heading out
✔️ Seating is extremely limited, so be prepared for a short wait
✔️ Cash or QR payment only—no credit cards
Because the opening hours are hit-or-miss,
I don't recommend making a long trek solely for Bart Coffee.
Instead, pair it with other great spots nearby!
You can easily combine it with a visit to Dibdee Binder and Khun Kae's Juice Bar
to make a perfect Old City afternoon itinerary.

but sitting at the bar and enjoying a beautifully crafted drink
makes it all worth it.
Just remember to bring cash, check if they're open,
and plan a fun Old City itinerary around it!
