Getting There
Monforte d'Alba itself is an exceptionally picturesque village, adorned with vibrant colors. It felt like stepping into a painting.

Given its small size, finding the restaurant was quite easy.

Interior & Ambiance
One interesting observation I made during my Italy trip was the strong preference for terrace seating, even in warm weather. If you make a reservation, you'll often be prioritized for an outdoor table.
Perhaps it's because the indoor areas aren't always significantly cooler, or simply part of the Italian dining culture to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere outside.

Since we visited without a reservation, we were seated at an indoor table.

The view from our window was absolutely stunning, like a living postcard.

The wine list was incredibly extensive, like a thick book. It was fascinating just to flip through and admire the selection!

The Menu
We decided to order one dish each from the Antipasti, Primi Piati, and Secondi Piati sections.

The menu was very helpful, with English descriptions alongside the Italian, making our choices much easier.
You'll notice "veal" featured prominently; this tender calf meat is a staple in Northern Italian cuisine.

Tajarin is a type of fresh, egg-yolk-rich pasta commonly found in Northern Italy. When traveling through this region, you'll often find rich ragùs made with game meats. We opted for the rabbit ragu Tajarin.

Our Culinary Selections
Antipasti: La monfortina con mirtile niccole (~$13)
Primo Piati: Tajarin al Ragu (~$16)
Secondi Piati: Guancia di vitello brasata al Nebbiolo (~$22)
Glass of Nebbiolo
Glass of Barbera
La monfortina con mirtile niccole
Marinated raw veal with Blueberries and hazelnuts
This was our antipasto. The texture was delightful, especially with the hazelnuts. I was a little apprehensive about raw veal, but the flavor and aroma were not overly strong or unusual, and it was quite enjoyable.

Since we were in Barolo, we ordered robust red wines, and they paired perfectly with this dish.
Barbera is generally easier to drink than Nebbiolo, making it a great choice for a table wine.
While Dolcetto is often recommended as a table wine in Barolo, my husband and I found Barbera more to our liking!

Guancia di vitello brasata al Nebbiolo
Cheek beef braised in nebbiolo wine sauce
Next up was the veal cheek braised in Nebbiolo wine sauce.

It was topped with what appeared to be bok choy. I wondered what it would taste like, given the strong Nebbiolo grape variety, but the meat was incredibly tender from slow braising, resulting in a wonderfully smooth flavor.

Tajarin al Ragu bianco di Coniglio e Olive Taggiasche
Finely home-made tagliatelle dressed with white rabbit ragout and olives from Taggia
And finally, the white rabbit ragout Tajarin.

There's nothing quite like fresh pasta enjoyed right in Italy! The Tajarin noodles were thin and delightfully springy, making them incredibly appealing.

Despite their thinness, they held the ragù beautifully. Each mouthful was a burst of flavor and a wonderful textural experience.

Our meal was certainly meat-focused, but it paired wonderfully with the wines, and the portions were just right.
I wholeheartedly recommend Osteria dei Catari in Monforte d'Alba for anyone seeking exceptional Northern Italian cuisine and an impressive wine list in the Barolo region!
