Here's my takeaway review, prices, and top menu recommendations.
1. Bakehouse Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong
📍 Bakehouse
44 Hankow Rd, Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong

Bakehouse is the renowned Hong Kong bakery famous for its incredible egg tarts.
While there are many branches across Hong Kong, the Tsim Sha Tsui and Central locations are particularly popular with tourists.

I first visited the Bakehouse Tsim Sha Tsui branch.
The building exterior was under construction, but the bakery itself was fully operational.
Even with a long queue, it moved surprisingly fast because most people were buying for takeaway.

Don't be fooled into thinking Bakehouse is *just* an egg tart specialist – it offers so much more!

While their egg tarts are legendary, this bakery also sells a wide range of other delicious items.
From artisanal sourdough and healthy breads to tempting donuts and flaky croissants, there's something for everyone!

They also offer a selection of beverages including coffee, tea, and even beer.

Here’s a quick look at the drink cup sizes at Bakehouse (Small, Medium, Large).

A Hong Kong egg tart costs HKD 14, which is approximately ~$2.
I ordered two sourdough egg tarts and a large Americano.
The total, including the drink, came to HKD 73 (approximately ~$10). It's comparable to coffee shop prices back home!

Their signature blue shopping bag is quite stylish, isn't it? Such a pretty color!

Behold the glorious Bakehouse egg tart… so shiny and inviting! ><

I couldn't wait and ate it right on the street after buying it. The crust was crispy and sweet, the filling was smooth, rich, and perfectly balanced—not overly sweet. Absolutely delicious!
It's so good, you'll want to get back in line for another bite! It pairs wonderfully with an Americano 👍🏻
2. Bakehouse Central, Hong Kong
📍 Bakehouse
5 Staunton St, Central, Hong Kong

The next day, I made my way to the Hong Kong Central branch! This location is conveniently close to many popular tourist spots like the Mid-Levels Escalators and Tai Kwun.

One egg tart simply wasn't enough, so a second visit was a must.
While in Central, I also popped into Tai Cheong Bakery, a well-known spot. But honestly, it felt like eating steamed egg custard compared to Bakehouse's flaky perfection! ㅠㅠ

If you prefer a Portuguese-style egg tart with a flaky crust, Bakehouse is undoubtedly the place to go!

At the Central Soho branch, I also decided to try their Pineapple Bun (Bolo Bao). And wow, it was incredibly tasty too!
These takeaway-only shops have a fast turnover, making it easy to grab your treats quickly.

✔️ The most famous Bakehouse branch is Wan Chai.
This is a dine-in location, so expect a very long queue, especially during peak hours.
If you're just looking to grab an egg tart, check for a 'Takeaway Only' line or visit one of their dedicated takeaway branches for a quicker experience!
4. Bakehouse Hong Kong Recommended Menu

My two must-try recommendations from Bakehouse Hong Kong:
①
Sourdough Egg Tart
* Price: HKD 14 (approximately ~$2)
Despite the 'sourdough' name, don't expect a strong sour or funky flavor. Instead, the sourdough crust offers an incredible crispiness and nutty aroma.
The dough is flaky and savory, while the filling is perfectly smooth with no eggy aftertaste. It's also not greasy, making it delightfully light.
Personally, I found these even better than the famous Lillian Bakery tarts in Shanghai!

②
Pineapple Bun (Bolo Bao)
Salted Egg & Caramel Custard Bolo Bao
* Price: HKD 28 (approximately ~$4)
This is Hong Kong's beloved national bun, the pineapple bun, filled with a delicious salted egg and caramel custard.
❌ Don't be fooled, it doesn't taste like pineapple! ❌
It gets its name from the criss-cross pattern on top, which resembles a pineapple skin. Think of it more like a sweet, crumbly-topped bun!
The bun itself is wonderfully chewy and soft, while the filling offers a perfect sweet and savory contrast. This was a true hidden gem I discovered at Bakehouse!
5. Final Thoughts

I hope this review of Bakehouse Hong Kong and its various locations and menu items helps you plan your delicious adventure.
If you find a Bakehouse along your travel route, I highly recommend stopping by!
✔️ Good news for souvenirs: Egg tarts are allowed in both carry-on and checked luggage, so you can bring this amazing treat home with you!
Seriously, you HAVE to try the Sourdough Egg Tart and the Pineapple Bun – they are incredibly delicious! 💙
