It's just an hour away by ferry, making it perfect for a day trip.

I personally did a 3-night Hong Kong, 1-night Macau itinerary~

Today, I'll share all the vivid details from my own experience,

including how to book the ferry connecting Hong Kong and Macau,

terminal locations, timetables, luggage storage, and even my seasickness review~

Bus vs. Ferry

Transportation between Hong Kong ↔ Macau

Hong Kong and Macau are incredibly close.

So, whether you arrive in Hong Kong and do a day trip to Macau,

or arrive in Macau and travel to Hong Kong,

you can plan your trip by comparing flight prices~

I flew into Macau round trip and then crossed over to Hong Kong,

for a total of 4 nights and 5 days across Hong Kong and Macau~!

There are two main ways to get between Hong Kong and Macau: bus and ferry!

The most convenient mode of transport depends on your starting point,

but if you're departing from Hong Kong city, the ferry is generally more convenient than the bus.

Taking the bus means going from Hong Kong city → Airport → Macau,

which takes almost double the time.

The ferry, on the other hand, takes you directly from Hong Kong city → Macau city by sea,

and it only takes about an hour~

so it's super easy to find.

It's close to Macau's city center attractions like

I highly recommend using the Outer Harbour Terminal-!

Located near Macau International Airport and a cluster of 5-star hotels,

this terminal is more convenient if you're staying in Macau for one night or more~

All operating hours and fares are pretty similar,

so you can choose your ferry based on your destination.

While TurboJET does have routes to Taipa,

they aren't very frequent, so I think it might be less confusing

to view them separately like this :)

My itinerary was arrival at Macau International Airport → stay in Hong Kong

→ return to Macau for another stay,

so I ended up using the Cotai Water Jet ferry for a round trip.

When taking the ferry, I recommend arriving a bit early

for immigration clearance (passport check).

I arrived an hour before departure and felt relaxed,

and on weekdays, I think arriving just 40 minutes beforehand should be fine—!

On weekends and public holidays, definitely plan to arrive early~!

Ferries have assigned seating—!

One piece of luggage per person is free, and you can store your bags onboard.

You can also enjoy light snacks onboard,

and I was able to buy snacks at the convenience store inside the terminal.

I tend to get seasick,

and on the first day, I boarded the ferry without taking any medicine.

Perhaps because of the rainy weather, it was quite bumpy,,

So, for the return trip, I bought some motion sickness medicine at a Hong Kong pharmacy

and took it before boarding. Taking it an hour beforehand worked great!

If you get seasick like me, it's a good idea to buy medicine in advance from your home country

or purchase it at a Hong Kong pharmacy~

However, my friend, who doesn't get seasick, had a perfectly comfortable journey.

Before boarding, I asked the staff member assigning seats

to give me a seat that would be as stable as possible,

and I was assigned a relatively stable one.

And don't worry, every seat also has a paper bag just in case!
