When you need to get to Incheon International Airport (ICN) quickly via public transportation, or if you're arriving early in the morning and feeling exhausted, the AREX Express train is my go-to choice.
It whisks you from Seoul Station to Incheon Airport in just 43 minutes. Plus, with ample space for luggage and comfortable seating, it really helps you save energy on your journey to and from the airport.
I've put together a detailed guide comparing prices, travel times, and my experience with the seats on the direct train versus the regular subway. Hopefully, this helps you make the best choice for your trip!
Express Train vs. Regular Subway
Using the Regular Subway:
Takes longer, often crowded, less luggage space.
Using the AREX Express Train:
Faster, more comfortable, dedicated luggage racks.
Honestly, after a long journey, all I want to do is get home and relax. If I have an early morning flight, I appreciate arriving at the airport about 20 minutes faster, which makes the Express train a much more efficient option. For me, it's a no-brainer!

While purchasing tickets offline costs ~$10, you can often find them for less online!
I checked the prices myself and found that you can buy tickets online even on the day of travel, making it a definite advantage to purchase ahead.
WAUG | Klook | KKDAY |
~$9 | ~$9 | ~$9 |
The prices are generally the same across these platforms, so it's a good idea to choose whichever one you use most often.
However, WAUG occasionally offers weekend coupons, which can bring the price down to as low as ~$8. So, it's worth checking for any special promotions before you book! (As of October 5, 2026, a surprise coupon event is ongoing!)

I frequently use Klook, so I booked my ticket there. Here's a quick guide on how to use your voucher:
After accessing your voucher:
1) Click 'Activate Ticket'
2) Select your desired date and time
3) Scan the QR code at the gate, and you're all set!

Activating your ticket just before boarding is incredibly convenient. If you activate it too early and your flight is delayed, it could be a hassle. This flexibility makes the process much smoother!
My AREX Express Train Experience
I used the Express train when traveling from Incheon Airport back home. The Express trains are distinctly orange, so if you're ever confused, just look for the orange signs!

Unlike the regular Airport Railroad, there's a dedicated QR scan gate for the Express train. Just scan your activated ticket, and the gate will open, allowing you to proceed!

The Express train has six cars, and one of its best features is the generous luggage storage area. You don't have to constantly hold onto your bags like you would on a crowded subway; there's plenty of space to store them comfortably!

I traveled with a 20-inch carry-on, and not only was there ample luggage space, but the seats weren't heavily occupied either. This lower passenger density made the ride feel much more pleasant and spacious.

The seats are wide and comfortable, just like on a regular train. Many passengers even place smaller carry-ons right next to them. The best part? Being able to relax or even catch some sleep during the ride. After a tiring flight, a quick nap on the train can do wonders for your energy levels!
For those of us traveling from other parts of Korea and connecting via Seoul, combining a train ride to Seoul with the AREX Express train truly makes for a fast and comfortable journey. Comfort becomes increasingly important as we get older, right?
I always opt for the AREX Express train when I'm checking in at Seoul Station's City Airport Terminal or when I have an early morning arrival.
Airport buses to some regions outside Seoul often don't start until after 7:00 AM, meaning a long, tiring wait at the airport. If you're looking for an early morning transfer option, I highly recommend giving the Express train a try!

These seats feel like you have the whole carriage to yourself! The first train in the morning is usually the most pleasant and uncrowded.
If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment. And remember to book your tickets online in advance to save yourself about ~$1!
