Agriturismo Il Rigo Tuscany Review 2026: An Authentic Farm Stay

An unmissable part of any Tuscany trip:

A farmhouse stay experience!

Among them, Agriturismo Il Rigo is a place with deep roots, having been family-run for over 500 years!

I fell in love with this place after seeing it on YouTube and decided to visit.

Turns out it’s already super popular among Koreans, who knew?

They say it’s always fully booked, but luckily for us,

there was exactly one night available on our desired dates!

Location

Check-in: 3 PM - 7 PM

Check-out: 11 AM

As a farmhouse stay located in the heart of Val d'Orcia,

a rental car is, of course, absolutely essential!

It’s about a 10-15 minute drive to Pienza,

and the filming location for the movie 'Gladiator' is also nearby.

Plus, Maximus's House, famous as a photo spot, is a close 8-minute drive away!

Having lunch in Pienza before checking in is absolutely perfect!

Booking and Price

I booked through Il Rigo's official website.

Officially, a minimum of two nights is required,

and sometimes even three or more nights during public holidays.

However, it just so happened that on my desired dates,

there was only one room available, making a single-night booking possible!

I think the price for one night was a bit higher than if I had booked two nights, as is typical.

I booked it for approximately ~$277, which included breakfast and dinner,

but I’ve seen reviews from others who stayed for around ~$182!

The Room

The room might not be as chic or luxurious as a hotel,

but it’s impeccably clean and well-maintained.

With its old wooden furniture, iron bed frames,

and original tiled floors,

it truly feels like stepping into a traditional Tuscan country home.

Aside from the main room door, there’s another door in the bedroom

that leads directly outside!

Since it was late August, the fields were more golden than vibrant green, but the scenery itself was so beautiful, I was perfectly content!

The biggest drawback of a farmhouse stay is usually the lack of air conditioning, and I was genuinely worried about the summer heat.

But seriously, if you just leave the door open, it’s not hot at all!

The Tuscany region itself is much cooler than Rome.

As for bugs, I only saw about one fly and didn't encounter any others.

Basic amenities like Wi-Fi, a private bathroom, hairdryer, towels,

and soap are all provided.

While I personally didn't experience any major inconveniences during my stay,

if you’re looking for hotel-style convenience and pristine cleanliness,

a farmhouse stay will definitely feel a bit rustic, so keep that in mind!

Val d'Orcia Plains

The biggest reason to book Il Forno? Definitely this view! ✨

Step outside your accommodation, and right before you,

you'll find cypress trees, rolling fields, and the beautiful Val d'Orcia hills.

You don't even need to seek out famous Tuscan photo spots;

the view from the guesthouse's own yard is absolutely stunning on its own.

The only real drawback in terms of facilities? No swimming pool.

But for us, it wasn't a big deal since we had plenty of swimming

at the wine resort the day before!

Dinner

Dinner is served from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM,

but the food can be a bit slow to come out,

so it's a good idea to eat quickly before it gets too dark!

Tuscany in the daylight is just brimming with romance...

There are even cute cats and dogs here! ❤️

Dinner features a daily changing

4-course Tuscan menu.

It's 40 Euros per person, including water and coffee,

but wine is extra.

We didn't really understand the wine list,

so we asked the staff for a recommendation.

They say they use mostly local, organic ingredients,

with vegetables coming directly from their own garden

and grains and flour produced right on the farm.

While dinner seems to get mixed reviews,

it was a bit hit-or-miss for our taste buds.

It wasn't bad, but it was exceptionally healthy-tasting,

which might be a bit disappointing for Koreans used to more punchy flavors...

We ate so many salty dishes in Rome, and here it was just *too* healthy ㅠㅠ

However, the dessert and wine were delicious!

At 40 Euros per person (about ~$44),

it's not super expensive for Italy, but if we visit again,

we might just bring our own food.

Breakfast

Breakfast is served in a restaurant with a warm, homey atmosphere.

Hours are from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM!

It's not a grand hotel-style buffet with a huge variety,

but rather a delightful spread of bread, homemade cakes, ham, cheese, yogurt,

cereal, fruits, homemade jams, and more.

The cakes and cookies, too, are made with

organic flour grown right here at Il Borgo.

It was simply delicious!

If this is your first trip to Italy, especially a honeymoon,

I highly recommend dedicating a day to just relax and unwind,

without any sightseeing pressure, at a Tuscan farmhouse stay.

It's truly healing!

Just for your reference, another accommodation I stayed at in Tuscany was

the Dievole Wine Resort.

And I personally enjoyed Dievole just a tiny bit more 😊
