Hello, this is Takugi! ✈️
I recently returned from a trip to Rome, Italy, in the scorching heat of August!
For this trip,
I cooked delicious meals with local ingredients
and wanted a place where I could relax and unwind.
While searching for accommodation with cooking facilities, I stumbled upon this gem,
which is 'Viam 16b Suites'.

I booked it at around ~$148 per night, a great price even in the peak summer season of August in Rome,
and I was truly satisfied with both its value for money and room condition.
If you're looking to save on food expenses and stay somewhere as comfortable as home,
I especially recommend it to couples, married travelers, or long-term travelers!
As you can see from the photos, it was clean and lovely.

📍 Viam 16b Suites
Via di Gesù e Maria, 16b, 00187 Roma RM, Italy
The basics of any accommodation are location and safety, right!
This place satisfied both!
📍 Subway Accessibility
It's close to a nearby subway station,
making it really easy to get to Termini Station or major attractions.
In Rome, with its many cobblestone streets,
the convenience of pulling your suitcase to the subway
is a huge advantage!

🛍️ Right Next to the Shopping Street
It's directly adjacent to the main shopping district,
which was perfect for exploring luxury boutiques and enjoying high-street brand shopping.
🛡️ Safe & Secure
Even when returning to the accommodation late in the evening,
the surrounding streets were bright and clean, so I never felt scared.
It offers a secure environment where even two women or solo female travelers
can feel completely at ease.
Lobby & Check-in
As an apartment-style residence,
unlike the bustling lobbies of large hotels,
it had a clean and private entry system.

As instructed beforehand,
after entering the password,
I was able to self-check-in smoothly.
If you need luggage storage before or after check-in,
you can arrange it with the host via message in advance.
So, if you arrive earlier than check-in time
or have plans after check-out,
I highly recommend contacting them beforehand!
✅You'll receive communication via WhatsApp.
✔️The city tax for 2 nights for 2 people was 10 Euros,
which I paid additionally at checkout.
Room Review: Duplex Apartment
The duplex apartment is located in the attic of this building,
on the very top floor.

I had to book this accommodation just a month in advance,
so I didn't have many options.
If I had the choice, I would have picked a room with a terrace.
The terrace looked so lovely.
As soon as I opened the door and stepped inside,
I was greeted by a beautiful white-toned interior that was fresh and impeccably clean.

✔️ Cozy Attic Bedroom & Bedding

With its duplex (multi-story) structure,
the bedroom and bathroom are located upstairs.
It had that unique, cozy, and warm attic vibe,
which was absolutely charming.
There was hardly any noise, so I slept really well.
Even large-sized towels and slippers
were provided.
The bedding was impeccably clean and fresh,
without any dampness whatsoever.
The place was so incredibly well-maintained, I slept like a baby.
Especially since the bed was firm and had almost no wobble,
among all the beds I used during my trip,
it was the best!

It was drier than I expected,
which meant no humidity and my clothes dried perfectly, even in summer.
It was also great that there were hangers everywhere.
The bathroom is located on the second floor.

There was a hairdryer too!
Due to the nature of a rooftop apartment, the ceiling height is a bit low,
so taller individuals might find it slightly inconvenient.
✔️ Kitchen & Spacious Dining Table
(The absolute best feature!)

The cooking facilities were excellent, exceeding my expectations.
The induction cooktop, pots, cooking utensils, and tableware
were all neatly equipped,
making it perfect for cooking pasta or steak
every evening.

What's more, the freezer performance was absolutely fantastic,
allowing me to keep gelato
and ice cream bought from the supermarket perfectly frozen,
and enjoying them for dessert was a real treat.

The dining table was also spacious, making it lovely for enjoying a glass of wine in the evening
and having cozy meals together.
✔️ Air Conditioning & Summer Sanctuary
Rome's daytime temperatures are much higher than those in the south,
and the intense sun can truly take your breath away.

While it takes a little time for this accommodation's air conditioner
to cool down the entire room after turning it on,
once the temperature drops, it becomes quite pleasant and cool.
There are air conditioners on both the first and second floors.
After sweating buckets during the day and returning,
taking a nap in the cool air-conditioning
was perfectly enough to recharge.
August Rome Weather, What to Wear & Essential Packing Tips!

Rome in August is truly like a furnace.
Even though the humidity is lower than in the south,
the heat from the direct sunlight
is beyond imagination,
so you really need to brace yourself and be prepared.
🌡️ August Weather
Daytime temperatures easily exceed 35 degrees Celsius,
and due to the heat radiating from the asphalt and marble,
the felt temperature approaches 40 degrees Celsius.

Between 1 PM and 4 PM,
it's wise to avoid strenuous outdoor sightseeing
and instead take a break indoors at your accommodation or a cafe.
👗 Recommended Attire

Breathable
linen shirts, sleeveless tops, light short-sleeved shirts, and shorts.
When visiting the Vatican, Pantheon, or major cathedrals,
you must cover your shoulders and knees to enter, so
a light linen shawl or
a long cardigan is handy to carry in your bag.

You'll be walking over 20,000 steps a day, so
comfortable, breathable sneakers or sandals are an absolute must!
🎒 Essential Packing List

🧊 Insulated Tumbler & Ice Water
Freezing water solid in the accommodation's freezer before heading out, or
carrying ice water with you,
proved incredibly useful.
🕶️ Sun Protection
Wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and strong sunscreen.
Price Comparison & Booking Tips
During peak season, accommodations in central Rome often
easily exceed ~$222 to ~$296 per night,
so booking a B&B with this kind of location and cooking facilities
for around the ~$148 range
was a great choice, even looking back now.
For certain periods, you might need to search for stays of 2 nights or more
for it to show up in search results.
Booking Platform | Avg. Price per Night (as of November) | Features & Benefits |
Agoda | ~$170~ | |
Booking.com | ~$170 ~ |
Since there isn't a huge price difference between platforms,
you can just use whichever platform you prefer.
Personally, I prefer Booking.com
because there are rarely payment errors or price fluctuations during checkout, haha!
Wrapping Up

Stepping out of the accommodation and leisurely strolling along the shopping streets,
with a gelato in hand,
then heading out for a walk around the Spanish Steps –
it was truly a fantastic itinerary.

Exploring major attractions at a relaxed pace in the morning,
then returning to the accommodation during the hottest part of the day,
cooking up a hearty meal,
and relaxing with the air conditioning –
I was able to soak in Roman daily life
just like a local.
In the next post,
I'll be sharing great tips for grocery shopping in Rome
and a meticulously planned 3-night, 4-day walking tour itinerary!
I'll bring it to you packed with useful info!
Feel free to leave any questions in the comments.
