Rome 3-Day Itinerary 2026: Vatican, Colosseum & Hotels
Maximize your 3 days in Rome for 2026! Our itinerary covers the Vatican, Colosseum, and top hotels. Get smart booking tips to make your Roman holiday unforgettable.

Rome's famous attractions are clustered close together, so
you can see most of the major sights in just 3 nights and 4 days.
However, for places like the Vatican Museums or the Colosseum,
which require timed entry reservations,
it's crucial to plan your itinerary efficiently around those times.
I'll be organizing everything from the travel itinerary and the accommodation I stayed at, to tour booking times and
even discount codes!
Rome 3-Night, 4-Day Itinerary: Day 1

On our first day in Rome, we traveled from the airport
via the Leonardo Express
to Termini Station.
It's about 32 minutes non-stop from the airport to Termini,
trains run frequently, usually every 15 minutes, and
there are no extra charges for luggage, making it super convenient.
✅ You can even book in advance to skip the lines!

📍ForhEZEN Private Suites
After arriving at Termini, we headed to our accommodation,
ForhEZEN Private Suites.
The location is superb, just an 8-minute walk to the Trevi Fountain and 5 minutes to the Pantheon, and
the price is affordable too!
For a detailed review, check out the post below!

📍Tartufi & Friends
If you love truffles, this is definitely a place worth visiting at least once.
They serve generous amounts of delicious truffles, and
the staff are so friendly,
it was a truly satisfying first meal in Rome.

📍Giolitti
After dinner, we wrapped up our day with gelato from Giolitti,
famous as one of Rome's top three gelaterias!
Day 2

📍Trevi Fountain
In the morning, before the crowds arrived,
we visited the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps.
Honestly, these days you really need to go as early as 6-7 AM, but
I woke up late and arrived around 8 AM.
So, I couldn't go inside the fenced area anymore,
but the photos I took from outside still turned out pretty good!

Now, if you want to go inside the fence to take photos,
you have to pay 2 Euros. But if you arrive early,
you can enter without paying the fee,
which is why it's so crowded from dawn these days.

📍Spanish Steps
The Spanish Steps were nearby, so I immediately went to take photos.
I had to erase a few people in my shots, but there really weren't many people!
Instead of moving around exhaustingly from dawn,
I felt lucky to have started around 8 AM.

📍Pantheon
I had seen the interior of the Pantheon on YouTube,
and I wasn't particularly interested, plus the line was too long,
so I just looked at the exterior and moved on.

📍La Casa del Caffè Tazza d'Oro
It's right next to the Pantheon, so it's a great spot to visit together.
I tried the coffee and maritozzo,
but the coffee was just so-so...?
After that, I headed back to my accommodation,
took a nap, and then came out again.

📍LUCIANO Cucina italiana
A famous pasta restaurant featured on Yuksikman's YouTube channel!
It was truly the best carbonara of my life! 🩷
I went there twice in Rome, and it was delicious both times,
but one time I felt it was slightly less impressive, so
it seems there might be some variation in taste depending on the kitchen's situation.

📍Colosseum Underground Tour
After dinner, we headed to the Colosseum.
Unlike the upper levels accessible with a regular ticket,
I purchased tickets that allowed me to descend into the underground areas
where gladiators and animals once waited.
Details on the official website's booking opening times and reviews of cancellation tickets
are written in detail below!

📍Roscioli Salumeria con Cucina
For dinner, it was another fantastic restaurant introduced on Yuksikman's YouTube channel!
I was quite worried because there were many negative reviews about it being way too salty,
and indeed, it was incredibly salty... haha.
Personally, I leaned towards liking it,
but I definitely wouldn't take my parents there.
Day 3 & 4

📍St. Peter's Basilica
Day 3 was our Vatican tour!
First thing, we made a 'run' for St. Peter's Basilica right at opening.
We arrived at 7 AM, but it was the day of the Papal General Audience,
so the place was already packed with people from early morning.
Thankfully, after waiting for about 40 minutes, we were able to enter.

The interior of the cathedral is incredibly opulent..🩷
I even got to see the famous Pietà with my own eyes!
After that, we grabbed a quick breakfast nearby
and then headed to the Vatican Museums.

📍Vatican Museums
The Vatican Museums boast an incredible number of artworks,
and their layout connects directly to the Sistine Chapel,
so you'll need to set aside several hours if you want to see everything properly.
They're incredibly popular, so it's a good idea to check for your preferred dates
about two months before your trip.
If tickets aren't available, you might try looking for cancellation tickets
or going with a guided tour.

Given the abundance of important works like the Laocoön Group, Raphael's Rooms,
and Michelangelo's ceiling frescoes and The Last Judgment,
I highly recommend going with a guided tour.

📍PICCOLO BUCO
Afterward, we relaxed at our accommodation before heading out for a combined lunch and dinner.
This place is also quite popular, so there's usually a wait.
It's best to expect a bit of a wait if you go during peak hours.
The pizza was absolutely delicious, just as I'd hoped!🩷

📍Oro Bistrot
And to cap off Day 3, we caught the sunset from a rooftop!
With a view of the Altar of the Fatherland,
it's the perfect spot to enjoy a cocktail.

On our final day, Day 4, we didn't pack in too many tourist spots.
Instead, we casually explored places we hadn't seen yet.
We stopped by Sant'Eustachio Il Caffè for a coffee,
then visited the Roman Forum – which we'd missed on our Colosseum day due to the scorching heat –
and the Mouth of Truth, before heading to the airport!
