This year,
I embarked on a summer adventure to Rome, Italy, in the scorching heat of August.
For this trip, instead of eating out every day,
I wanted to buy fresh ingredients from local markets
and cook delicious meals myself.
To beat the scorching midday heat
and relax leisurely,
I carefully chose an accommodation with cooking facilities.
And after a lot of searching, I discovered the perfect spot:
'Viam 16b Suites'.

Even in the peak summer season of August in Rome,
I booked it at the amazing price of around ~$147 per night,
and got both an excellent location and comfortable room conditions.
It was a place where I truly got the best of both worlds.
If you want to save on food costs
and stay comfortably like a local, feeling right at home in Rome,
I confidently recommend this to couples, married travelers, or even solo female travelers!

1. The Key to a Great Rome Stay: Viam 16b Suites Location and Safety
When traveling abroad, especially in Rome, Italy, where safety and ease of movement are crucial,
your accommodation's location truly dictates the quality of your trip.
This accommodation definitely delivered on that front.

🚇 Public Transport Accessibility
It's close to nearby metro stations, making it really easy to get to Termini Station or
other major attractions.

In Rome, where uneven cobblestone streets stretch endlessly,
being able to easily drag your suitcase
to the metro station
is an absolute blessing!
🛍️ Excellent Walkability
Major attractions like Piazza del Popolo, Piazza Navona, and the Trevi Fountain,
as well as luxury streets and trendy shopping areas, are right next door,
making it fantastic for shopping
and perfect for a stroll.
🛡️ Reassuring Safety
Even when returning to the accommodation late at night,
the surrounding streets were well-lit
and clean, so I didn't feel scared at all.
This is a safe environment for both groups of two women or solo female travelers.

2. Room Review
Charming Duplex Apartment
Although I hastily booked just a month in advance,
and didn't have a wide range of choices,

The moment I opened the door and stepped inside,
the fresh and immaculately clean
white-toned interior instantly lifted my spirits.
(P.S. If you book early,
rooms with a terrace would also be absolutely lovely!)
✔️ A Crisp and Cozy Attic Bedroom
Being a duplex,
the bedroom and bathroom are separately located upstairs.

The unique charm of the attic space, filled with warmth and coziness,
truly captivated me throughout my stay.
But what really stood out was the amazing bedding!
Without a hint of dampness,
it was wonderfully crisp and dry, as if it had been perfectly sun-dried.
The mattress was also firm and incredibly stable,
allowing me to truly experience the most rejuvenating sleep
after walking 20,000 steps all day.

(You'll find large towels, slippers, a hairdryer, and plenty of hangers thoughtfully provided.
Just a heads-up though: because it's a loft, the ceiling is a bit low in some spots,
so taller explorers might want to watch their heads!)

✔️ The Perfect Kitchen & Dining Area That Stole My Heart
This was the absolute highlight of this stay,
and truly the space I want to rave about the most!

With an induction cooker, pots, cooking utensils, and tableware all neatly and completely equipped,
I had such a blast making pasta every evening with fresh ingredients I'd picked up from the local Roman markets.

A tiny detail, but salt and oil weren't provided.
Luckily, we came prepared with our own, so we were all set! 😉

And especially, the freezer was incredibly powerful,
allowing me to keep the gelato and ice cream I bought from the supermarket perfectly frozen,
ready to be enjoyed as a delightful late-night treat.

It was absolutely perfect for sitting down at the spacious dining table,
enjoying a glass of wine,
and reflecting on the day's incredible adventures.
✔️ Individual A/C Units on Both Floors for Ultimate Comfort
Rome's August sun is no joke –
it's truly breathtakingly intense!
Fortunately, this duplex apartment comes with
individual air conditioning units installed on both the first and second floors.

The one on the first floor is in front of the window,
and the one on the second floor is next to the bed.
While it takes a little time to cool down initially,
once the temperature drops,
the entire room becomes wonderfully comfortable and refreshing.
After spending the day sweating it out
exploring Rome's incredible ancient sites,
coming back to enjoy a sweet nap under the cool air conditioning
was simply divine – truly the perfect way to recharge!
3. Smart Check-in & Insider Tips
✅ Self Check-in: Forget the crowds of big hotels!
This is an apartment-style residence
with a private entry system.
I received the password via WhatsApp beforehand,
entered it, and voilà –
self check-in was a breeze!

✅Luggage Storage
If you arrived earlier than check-in time,
or if you have plans after check-out,
try messaging your host on WhatsApp in advance
to make arrangements.
✅City Tax
For our 2-night stay with 2 people, the 10-euro
city tax was paid on-site at check-out.
4. Rome's Mid-August Summer Weather &
Essential Packing Tips
Mid-summer Rome is truly like a fiery furnace.

Even though the humidity is lower than in the south,
the heat from direct sunlight is beyond imagination,
so thorough preparation is essential.
🌡️ August Weather
Daytime temperatures easily exceed 35 degrees Celsius, and due to the heat radiating from the asphalt,
the perceived temperature approaches 40 degrees Celsius.
To conserve energy,
during the hottest hours between 1 PM and 4 PM,
it's wise to avoid strenuous outdoor activities,
and instead return to your accommodation to cool down and rest.
This is a smart way to travel.
👉Recommended Sightseeing Spot
📍 Catacombs of Callixtus
Via Appia Antica, 110/126, 00179 Roma RM, Italy
While searching for attractions suitable for hot weather,
I visited the underground catacombs this time,
and I was really satisfied.
👗 Recommended Attire
Breathable linen shirts, sleeveless tops,
light short-sleeved tops, and shorts. However, when entering major churches like the Pantheon or Vatican,
you must cover your shoulders and knees, so
be sure to pack a thin linen shawl or robe in your bag.

For shoes, comfortable and well-ventilated sneakers that can easily handle 20,000 steps a day
are the absolute best choice.
🎒 Essential Items
A cooler tumbler with ice water frozen solid in your accommodation's freezer,
and a wide-brimmed hat and strong sunscreen!
5. Price Comparison & Booking Tips
Considering that accommodations in central Rome during peak season
typically go for well over ~$221-~$294 per night,
booking a B&B with this location and cooking facilities
for the ~$147 range
was the most satisfying choice of this trip.
✅ For some periods, you need to set the search for 2 nights or more
✅Agoda
From the ~$170 range ~ Check Agoda's best prices
✅Booking.com:
From the ~$170 range ~ Check Booking.com's best prices
Since there isn't a significant price difference between platforms,
you can use whichever one you prefer.
I tend to use Booking.com mostly because it has
few payment errors or changes.
Wrapping Up
Stepping out of the accommodation, gently strolling along the shopping street,
and walking with a gelato in hand all the way to the Spanish Steps
— it was the best route for a pleasant walk.
During the hottest part of the afternoon,
returning to the accommodation to cook a delicious meal
and relaxing under the cool air conditioning allowed us to
truly savor a 'local Roman daily life'.
In the next post,
I'll be back with local Roman supermarket shopping tips
and a fulfilling 3-night, 4-day walking tour itinerary.
