Today, my itinerary had me near Hanlefang in Weihai,

so I visited a restaurant called Yuhualang.

While it's a local spot without a ton of info online,

it's a gem specializing in Zhishang Kaoyu.

I was thoroughly impressed, so here's my review.

Yuhualang (鱼花郎) is a beautiful name – combining the characters for "fish" (鱼), "flower" (花), and "young man" or "gentleman" (郎), it directly translates to "Fish Flower Young Gentleman."

The signboard prominently featured a fish character logo along with

the bold phrase, "Must-Try Kaoyu in Weihai."

They proudly emphasize using only live fish, grilled fresh right before your eyes.

2. Restaurant Atmosphere + How to Order

I visited at 4:30 PM.

The staff and owner were incredibly friendly, which always makes for a great experience.

The restaurant itself was neither too big nor too small;

it had ample tables perfect for groups of 2 to 4 people.

Ordering is super easy – just use the QR code on your table.

Simply open Alipay and scan.

The great thing is, it offers easy translation, including Korean.

We added a variety of toppings to our main dish,

plus two side dishes, two alcoholic beverages, and two soft drinks.

And the grand total was only 268 Yuan – what incredible value!

When you order, they'll provide cutlery and water.

Just a heads-up: the cutlery is included for a small fee!

3. Review: Yuhualang's Zhishang Kaoyu & Side Dishes

Zhishang Kaoyu (纸上烤鱼) literally means "fish grilled on paper,"

combining the characters for "paper" (纸), "on" (上), "to grill" (烤), and "fish" (鱼).

The main dish, Cheonggangwi, is a freshwater fish.

We ordered it half 'mild spicy' and half 'signature spicy,'

and it felt like mala flavor, but without the intense numbing spice.

A staff member was with us from start to finish,

so we didn't have to worry about anything going wrong with the food.

The dish had subtle aromas of Sichuan peppercorn and cumin,

and it was a bit tingly, slightly spicy, and invigoratingly piquant.

Some parts of the fish were slightly over-grilled,

but that actually made it easier to separate the flesh from the bones.

It was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, which was really satisfying.

The toppings, like luncheon meat, tofu,

and enoki mushrooms, absorbed the seasoning well,

making them perfect companions for rice.

⭐ Here's what we ordered for sides!!

First off, talking about the Majiang Cucumber, it's cucumber

tossed in Majiang sauce. It was nutty and

had a savory umami flavor that kept us reaching for more.

The Sichuan-style crispy fried pork

felt like eating savory chicken tenders.

It was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, simply seasoned

with just salt and pepper.

We actually ordered ramen thinking it was a noodle side dish,

so it was a surprise to get a whole bowl of ramen!

It was a Chinese-style ramen with a subtle ginger aroma,

and with scrambled egg in it, the spiciness was comparable

to Samyang Ramen's mild flavor.

Unfortunately, there were no zero-sugar drinks,

so we ordered a bottled drink called Dayao.

It tastes like pineapple-flavored Miranda!

Although it wasn't a well-known place and we visited on a whim,

I was thoroughly satisfied.

4. Concluding Our Culinary Journey

To sum up our day, we spent the morning

exploring Huaxiacheng to our hearts' content, and then in the afternoon,

we concluded with an early dinner at Yuhualang in Hanlefang.

If you're wondering where to eat after visiting Huaxiacheng,

I think this place would be a great contender to consider.

A whole Cheonggangwi fish with all the sides was

enough to heartily fill two people,

and the friendly staff made our meal comfortable throughout.

When you're planning your Hanlefang (Koreatown) night market itinerary,

I highly recommend keeping this in mind for your trip.
