For those of you planning a trip to Osaka,
are you looking for a 'special' restaurant?
Since you're already traveling in Japan,
it only makes sense to visit a restaurant where you can truly immerse yourself in the local atmosphere, right?
As my partner and I were on an Osaka trip to celebrate our anniversary,
we booked a more upscale restaurant than usual.
Today, I'd like to introduce you to
'Yosakura,' a fantastic Japanese Omakase restaurant near Osaka's Dotonbori!

Yosakura YOSAKURA Opening Hours: 6:00 PM ~ 10:00 PM (Last Order 8:30 PM) Closed: None Location: 5-minute walk from Dotonbori Google Maps Search: yosakura |

Yosakura is a Japanese Omakase specialty restaurant that operates only
from 6 PM to 10 PM.
It's about a 5-minute walk from Dotonbori, located roughly two blocks away from the bustling main street,
making it a relatively quiet place to enjoy your meal!

Located on a quiet street, its exterior gave us the feeling of a secret hideaway.

The interior was generally simple and impeccably clean.
The seating consisted of four tables and nine counter seats,
accommodating up to approximately 30 people.
We booked the last slot at 8:30 PM and
arrived a bit early, around 8:10 PM.
Since it's already a well-known delicious spot in Osaka,
the interior was packed even though it was quite late in the evening!

We were guided to counter seats #1 and #2.
Because we had a reservation, chopsticks and
the course order sheet were already set at our seats.
Upon sitting down, even hot towels were provided for us!

There are three main courses available, and
their detailed compositions are as follows:
Osaka Course (¥6,600) | Wagyu Course (¥8,800) | Omakase Course (¥11,000) |
Temaki Sushi Sushi Yakitori Wagyu Sukiyaki Unagi Donburi Ramen Dessert | Temaki Sushi Sushi Wagyu Steak Wagyu Sukiyaki Unagi Donburi Ramen Dessert | Sake/Tea Pairing Temaki Sushi Sushi Wagyu Steak Wagyu Sukiyaki Unagi Donburi Ramen Dessert |
Additionally, dishes included in the courses
can be added à la carte,
and beverages such as beer, whiskey, and wine are also available for individual order.
Just a heads-up that some dishes contain eggs and shrimp,
and the staff will kindly ask about any allergies
before the course begins, so please keep that in mind!

Next up, I'll walk you through the order of the dishes in the Omakase course I enjoyed,
along with my honest taste review!
Sake Pairing

📌 Pairing Sake Types | ||
Yosakura (Plum Wine) | Toyosaki (Junmai Daiginjo) | Ninja (Tokubetsu Junmai) |
Yosakura's original plum wine Pairs well with all dishes | Mild bitterness and subtle freshness Recommended for seafood | Subtle rice aroma Recommended for meat dishes |

The Omakase course kicks off with a **sake pairing**!
They prepared three different types of sake for us and even explained which dishes each one pairs best with.
By the way, the staff speak English very well,
so you don't need to worry about understanding the food descriptions!

The first glass, Yosakura's **original plum wine**, was absolutely delicious and sweet.
It seemed like it would pair wonderfully as an aperitif or with dessert.
Toyosaki, a rather refreshing Nihonshu, felt like a perfect match for 'seafood,'
and the last one, Ninja, had a relatively stronger flavor, which would likely go great with Wagyu steak!
Temaki Sushi

The first dish of the meal is the **'Temaki Sushi Experience.'**
It offers a unique chance for guests to hand-roll their own maki sushi and enjoy it.
You get six types of ingredients along with nori: stir-fried beef, cucumber, egg, shrimp, salmon, and salmon roe.

You can refer to a video guide on how to make them via a QR code,
so I watched it and tried to create them similarly!

Just like in the video, you place rice and ingredients on the nori,
gently brush on some soy sauce, and roll it up—voila, it's done!
Making it myself somehow made it taste even better!

The salmon roe maki was also unforgettable.
It wasn't fishy at all, truly fresh, and the popping texture in my mouth was so fun!
I was delighted with the very first dish and couldn't wait for what was next!
4-Piece Sushi

The next dish was **four pieces of sushi**,
consisting of salmon, medium fatty tuna (chutoro), scallop, and eel, from left to right.
The fish already had soy sauce brushed on it,
Ginger and wasabi are served separately!
Personally, I recommend enjoying them in order from left to right.

The salmon was incredibly fresh and mild, with absolutely no fishy taste,
the medium fatty tuna had a delightful hint of richness,
and a wonderfully chewy texture that filled my mouth.

Personally, I truly savored the scallops.
They had a chewy yet firm texture that, as I chewed,
released a burst of umami flavor with every bite.

The eel had a wonderful charcoal aroma,
and was as tender as I'd hoped, making it absolutely delicious.
I'm usually quite sensitive to fishiness, but overall,
there was absolutely no hint of any fishy taste, and the firm, chewy texture of the aged sashimi
was perfectly preserved—I was utterly delighted!
Wagyu Steak

Next up was the Wagyu Steak, beautifully plated with wasabi, garlic chips,
and roasted salt.
A sprinkle of gold leaf on top of the steak
made it look even more luxurious and exquisite.

Just by looking at the photos, you can probably see the marbling
woven throughout the meat, right?
High-quality Wagyu is characterized by this beautiful marbling
elegantly distributed within its fibers.

The steak was so incredibly tender it practically melted in my mouth.
It was mild yet rich in flavor and umami,
and since it was bursting with juices and marbling,
I could pile on the wasabi without it being spicy at all!
Wagyu Sukiyaki

Following the steak, Wagyu Sukiyaki was served.
It was beautifully composed of tofu, fish cakes, meat, and an egg yolk.

Sukiyaki is wonderfully sweet and savory,
so dipping it in a well-whisked egg yolk creates a perfect harmony of flavors.
The mild egg yolk perfectly balances the flavors,
making it irresistibly delicious, bite after bite.
If only a bowl of rice had come with it, I could have easily
polished off the entire serving in no time!
Unagidon

The main meal began with Unagidon.
Though it's served in a square wooden box and you can't quite see it,
there's a bed of rice underneath.
And really, can eel rice bowl ever be anything but delicious?
The fluffy Japanese rice and tender eel
crumbled and melded together in my mouth,
delivering a delightful sweet and umami flavor.

With eight pieces of eel and about half a bowl of rice,
you'll likely feel quite full by this point!
Tonkotsu Ramen

The final dish of our meal was Tonkotsu Ramen.
When you think of Tonkotsu, you might imagine a robust, deeply flavored broth with a strong aroma,
but the broth of this ramen was truly unique.
It had a creamy texture, almost like soy milk or regular milk,
with the subtle essence of pork broth.

Despite being a pork broth, it wasn't heavy or overwhelming at all,
and I actually found myself wanting more of it.
Although Tonkotsu ramen is common, this one felt incredibly fresh,
and it truly felt like every small detail was meticulously cared for.
Dessert

True to a Japanese course meal, the final dessert
consisted of matcha and nama chocolate (raw chocolate).

What's more, we even got to try frothing the matcha ourselves
using a chasen (bamboo whisk), which was a fun experience!
Unlike courses where you just passively eat,
having a dish that allowed for direct participation made it even more satisfying!

Another touching moment was that they prepared a surprise for us.
They served us a cute dessert with 'Welcome to Osaka' written on it as a complimentary treat,
making our meal end on an even happier note!

Savoring eight dishes on the omakase course
took approximately an hour and a half.
Overall, you could tell they used high-quality ingredients,
as the quality of the food was exceptional. What's more, true to a specialty course restaurant, the luxurious plating and
unique experiences satisfied all our senses!
Since we visited for our anniversary, my spouse and I
had a truly satisfying time at Yosakura.
For those looking to experience an excellent value Japanese Omakase in Dotonbori, Osaka,
or couples and families wanting to enjoy a wonderful course meal in a lovely atmosphere,
I wholeheartedly recommend Yosakura.
The friendly staff who speak good English and
the delicious food will make your memories of Osaka
even more impressive!
