Autumn days are quickly turning crisp and cool.
If a long weekend trip feels like too much,
and you're actively searching for a place near Seoul (서울) to enjoy the vibrant yellow autumn leaves without a heavy commitment,
then Gangcheon Island is your answer!
With vehicle access restricted,
it's a truly special autumn ginkgo tree spot where you can fully immerse yourself in its unique peaceful and warm ambiance.

From the ginkgo tree path that forms a golden tunnel,
to the scenic view of the Namhan River (남한강) flowing right beside it!
Just walking along brings a sense of natural healing.
I'll share the fall foliage status from my visit on the last day of October,
and even a shortcut (?) parking tip that lets you arrive faster than if you used the main parking lot!
(*I've included the address for Gulham-ri Village Hall (굴암리마을회관) in Yeoju!)

1. Real-time Fall Foliage Status of Yeoju's Gangcheon Island Ginkgo Trees?
The Ginkgo Tree Lane on Gangcheon Island, Yeoju, which I visited on October 31st,
was already 85-90% or more colored,
truly transforming it into a golden world!

The ginkgo leaves were still abundant on every branch,
and a beautiful carpet of yellow fallen leaves covered the ground,
making the autumn ambiance truly reach its peak.
With the river beneath the clear autumn sky and the rustling reeds creating a harmonious scene,
after you walk along the Ginkgo Tree Lane,
be sure to also stroll through the Poplar Tree Lane (미루나무길)!

You'll be able to enjoy the beautiful autumn foliage from the first week of November until November 8th,
when the '4th Gangcheon Island Healing Culture Festival (제4회 강천섬 힐링문화축제)' takes place.

However😳
I'm a little concerned if the ginkgo leaves on the branches held up well after the rain and strong winds on Sunday, November 1st;
But even if some have fallen, the soft, thick yellow carpet of leaves on the ground is a splendid sight in itself, so don't worry too much and feel free to visit! 💛

2. Can You Picnic on Gangcheon Island, Yeoju?
Gangcheon Island, Yeoju, is a place where picnicking is allowed.
However, tents or cooking are not permitted.
Camping, car camping, and cooking are strictly prohibited!
You can use sun shelters or picnic mats,
and only packed lunches you've prepared are allowed,
so be sure to remember this before your visit.

I visited with absolutely no picnic gear, just my camera,
and found tables and benches thoughtfully placed throughout Gangcheon Island where you can sit and rest for a while.
I sat on one side of the grassy field, soaking in the warm sunshine,
and it was such a wonderful time of pure relaxation.

On Gangcheon Island, Yeoju, you'll find a diverse range of visitors: from families out for a stroll with their children,
to couples in their 20s and 30s capturing 'life shots' full of laughter under the golden ginkgo trees,
and even people walking their adorable dogs!

Since it's a pet-friendly spot,
if you're looking for an autumn outing place with your furry friend,
head to Gangcheonseom (강천섬) in Yeoju (여주)!
(Make sure to bring a leash and waste bags!)

3. A 5-minute walk to Gangcheonseom! Parking Hacks
🚗Guream-ri Village Hall (굴암리마을회관) Address: 59 Guream-ri, Gangcheon-myeon, Yeoju-si, Gyeonggi-do
I've mentioned this repeatedly, but
vehicle entry is restricted inside Gangcheonseom,
so if you check your parking options and travel route
in advance before visiting,
you can enjoy your visit much more comfortably.

There's the main Gangcheonseom parking lot,
and also a parking lot near Guream-ri Village Hall, often called Parking Lot 3.
I used this one!

The Guream-ri Village Hall parking lot
is a much shorter walk to Gangcheonseom!
After parking, you walk along a wooden deck path,
cross one main road,
and it connects directly to the Gangcheonseom entrance.

Compared to entering from the main parking lot,
you can cut your walking time by about half.
So, if you're not a big fan of walking, use Parking Lot 3.
Honestly, that 5-minute claim is only possible if you're a super fast walker,
but you'll definitely arrive in under 10 minutes!
However, the Guream-ri Village Hall parking lot
isn't very large,
and it's also used by local residents.
Since parking spaces are relatively limited,
if you plan to use the Guream-ri Village Hall parking lot,
make sure to visit early in the morning before it gets crowded.

Those who move early in the morning
get the best spots and experience less stress! 👀
If you're using Tmap,
you can enter "굴암리마을회관" (Guream-ri Village Hall) as your destination.
For those using Naver Maps,
it might not show up with a direct search, so enter the address below!

3. Recommended Visiting Hours
If your goal is a relaxing picnic at a prime spot,
it's definitely best to visit early in the morning.
In the afternoon, after lunch, people
gather for walks to digest,
and even finding parking becomes difficult!

If your goal is a leisurely stroll and taking photos,
I recommend visiting around 2-3 PM.
At this time, the sunlight
streams beautifully through the ginkgo trees, making for great photos.
If you visit during this time,
you can comfortably use
the Gangcheonseom main parking lot!
4. Autumn Festival to Enjoy Together
Coinciding with the peak of the autumn foliage,
an autumn festival is currently underway at Gangcheonseom.

From October 31st to November 8th,
there are healing concerts, food trucks, busking performances,
and a farmers' market for local specialties.
I'm sure it will make your autumn outing several times more enjoyable!
Overall Review & Reasons to Recommend
Alright, then, let's wrap up by summarizing the pre-visit checkpoints one more time.

① Tents and cooking are not allowed inside Gangcheonseom.
You can use picnic mats, so prepare a packed lunch.
② Restroom Location?
You can use the 'Gangcheonseom Healing Center (강천섬 힐링센터)' located near the entrance,
or the outdoor restrooms.
Since the restrooms inside the island are quite far apart,
please use them at the entrance before you go in.
③ Where are the trash cans?
There are no trash cans provided inside Gangcheonseom.
Please make sure to bring trash bags
and kindly dispose of your trash properly.
Gangcheonseom is one of my absolute favorite
ginkgo tree spots.
Since it's near Seoul (서울), I hope many people can visit with a lighter heart.
It's truly beautiful♥
Since this week will be the peak of its beauty,
if you want to soak in a sentimental, golden autumn atmosphere,
take a trip to Gangcheonseom in Yeoju (여주)!
