Yangyang Premium Bus Review 2026: Seoul to East Coast Travel

Ever dreamed of a winter escape to the serene beaches of Yangyang, South Korea's East Coast gem?

Sometimes, I find myself sending my boyfriend ahead to Gangwon-do while I opt for the bus, leaving my car behind. I used to have a pretty lackluster impression of intercity/express buses, but my recent journey completely shattered those preconceived notions. Here's why!

This was my first time taking a direct premium bus to Yangyang, and I was genuinely astonished. The first reason, and I admit it sounds a bit silly, was how incredibly modern and well-appointed the Express Bus Terminal itself was! I'd only visited before its major remodeling, usually just passing through to Famille Station or the Shake Shack area. This was my first time properly exploring the Gyeongbu line side for bus boarding, and wow, what a transformation.

It's incredibly easy to navigate; you can simply follow the signs from the subway station. There's so much to see and do that you might get distracted, so be sure not to miss your bus!

Just make sure to locate your boarding gate, which is usually clearly marked, often near a convenient landmark like the No Brand store.

Tip: I heard the restrooms before you reach the boarding gates are generally in better condition, so plan accordingly!

How to Book Your Premium Bus Ticket

Even if you're traveling during the off-season, like the depths of winter, buying tickets on-site can be surprisingly difficult. I highly recommend using the T-money Go app to book your tickets in advance.

For buses headed to Yangyang and Yangyang Terminal, the boarding gate is usually #19. My ride was with a Premium Gold Jungang Express bus. I arrived at the boarding gate around 1:52 PM, and boarding was already underway.

Right by the Gyeongbu Terminal entrance, you'll find an Emart 24 convenience store and even a specialty shop for screen protectors. Gate 19 is easy to spot, and you can grab a quick bottle of water or other essentials right there.

With limited time before departure, I quickly grabbed a convenience store rice triangle and a bottled tea, then boarded! While I usually crave a fancy coffee, I've made it a habit to buy bottled drinks for bus rides to avoid spills.

But here's the best part: on a premium bus, you don't have to settle for bland bottled drinks! These buses are incredibly well-equipped with individual private curtains, comfortable footrests, wireless charging, personal entertainment screens, a dedicated drink holder, and even an airline-style laptop tray. I was genuinely blown away by how luxurious it felt!

Getting to Yangyang by Premium Bus: Unbelievably Fast!

The in-bus arrival time screen was stuck loading for what felt like ages – I waited for two hours, but it never came on!

No worries, we just fire up our preferred navigation app (like Google Maps or a local favorite).

My navigation app showed an estimated arrival time of 2 hours and 17 minutes. Seeing those clear green lines on the map, indicating smooth traffic, was incredibly satisfying!

We made a brief 10-minute stop at the Hongcheon Rest Area before continuing our journey. Remember, rest stop durations can vary depending on road conditions (I just caught up on some sleep and didn't even get off the bus!).

I couldn't believe how fast it was! We arrived at Yangyang Terminal with such ease. Why had I wasted so much time on buses that routed through Gangneung or Seoraksan before? Even my starting point, near Daechi Station, is closer to the Gyeongbu Terminal. I was truly impressed by the roughly 2-hour travel time!

Upon arrival at Yangyang Terminal, if you're staying in Yangyang city, you can easily take a taxi or walk to your accommodation. For those heading to other areas like Hajodae or Jukdo, you can catch a connecting local bus right from the terminal!

A 2-hour and 17-minute journey! Considering the 10-minute stop at Hongcheon Rest Area, the actual travel time was just 2 hours and 7 minutes.

Thanks to the off-season, the cold weather, and the completion of the Hwado IC construction, this was the fastest trip to Yangyang I'd ever experienced! It truly felt like a record-breaking journey.
