How to Get to Sunset Fortress in Weihai, China

While public transportation in China can sometimes be a bit tricky to navigate, taxis are incredibly affordable, so I highly recommend using them for getting around!

From Huaju Pagoda, the taxi ride to Sunset Fortress was only about 10 minutes and cost around ~$1. Super budget-friendly!

When using Gaode Maps (Amap), search for 中央⁷台威海影视城 (Zhōngyāng Tái Wēihǎi Yǐngshìchéng), which will lead you directly to the Sunset Fortress area. ❤️

Upon arrival, you'll first see a large open space and the CCTV Broadcasting Station. While it was previously open to visitors, it was undergoing internal renovations during my visit in late March 2026, so entry wasn't permitted.

The Weihai CCTV Broadcasting Station has a charming, almost whimsical feel, akin to a children's broadcasting center in the West, with its adorable buildings.

Walk past the Weihai CCTV Film Set and follow the path inward. You'll know you're on the right track when you spot a cat cafe!

I was a little confused at first and asked a security guard, who simply pointed me down the path. It’s pretty straightforward!

The cat cafe wasn't open yet, perhaps because the weather hadn't fully warmed up, but it looked like a cozy spot.

A quick note on prices: I heard that a cup of tea there could set you back around ~$14. For China, where things are generally quite affordable, that's definitely on the pricier side! 😂

Continue past the cafe, and you'll be greeted by the expansive ocean, tidal flats, and the CCTV Broadcasting Station you saw earlier, now visible in the distance.
