Where are we off to on Eunsusu's latest travel adventure?
While searching for delicious restaurants in Weihai city center,
I discovered a local noodle house called Mian Bafang
through Dazhong Dianping and Gaode Maps, and I paid them a visit.
I ordered two bowls of Shanghai-style mixed noodles,
and both the taste and quantity were so satisfying that I've compiled everything from its location information
to an honest review.

1. Restaurant Information and Location + Nearby Attractions
Mian Bafang (面·八方) is a noodle specialty restaurant,
whose name means "a place where noodle dishes from all corners of the country gather."
浓油赤酱一碗面 (nóng yóu chì jiàng yī wǎn miàn)
refers to a bowl of mixed noodles topped with rich soy sauce,
which is a traditional cooking method from the Shanghai and Jiangnan regions.

Within walking distance north of the noodle house,
Huanqiu Park and the Gate of Happiness are located side by side.
A bit further south, you'll find Weihai Park with its frame sculpture, and a little further down,
the path continues to Hanlerfang (Koreatown) and Huaxiacheng.
If you use Mian Bafang as a reference point to plan your route,
you can easily put together a perfect half-day itinerary for Weihai city center.
(Please note it's a bit far to walk, so we recommend using Didi Taxi.)
2. Restaurant Atmosphere + How to Order
I thought it was on the first floor, but when I entered,
the restaurant was actually located in a semi-basement.
You could also enjoy Xiaocai (小菜) side dishes
for 8 CNY per plate.
Overall, the tableware was kept very clean.
The restaurant was quite spacious, actually.
It was reassuring to see how clean everything was.
They even had high chairs available for infants.
You can order via the QR code on the table, but
when I stood up to check out the beverage fridge,
there was a staff member at the counter, so I placed my order there.
Before visiting the restaurant, I had already decided on my order
based on the menu images I saw on Dazhong Dianping.
When choosing a menu item, you can select the spice level.
The staff member was incredibly kind, even using a translator to write in Korean
to ask me about it.
I ordered it extra spicy.
⭐ Honestly, a tip: if you order it spicy,
it gets *really* spicy, so I recommend choosing a milder
spice level.
3. Review of Shanghai-style Mixed Noodles

We ordered two dishes that day.
Even though it was the same noodle shop, the flavor profiles were completely different,
making it fun to compare them as we ate.

Both dishes had that perfectly appetizing
Jajangmyeon look.
With shrimp, beef, intestines, and kidney noodles,
plus large pieces of peas, bell peppers, and onions,
it really reminded us of Jaengban Jajangmyeon (Jajangmyeon served on a platter).
The noodles were bouncy and chewy,
and the sauce was on the thinner side, not too thick,
which made it much easier to mix.
There was also plenty of minced garlic,
giving it a surprisingly strong garlic aroma.

The Shrimp and Beef Bibim-myeon (虾仁牛肉拌面)
was very close to the familiar taste of beef and shrimp Jajangmyeon.
As for the Kidney and Intestine Bibim-myeon (腰花猪肝拌面), it had a rich flavor,
as if I was eating Jajangmyeon with intestines and kidney.
(I personally didn't detect any gamey odor.)
However, the chili peppers were much spicier than expected.
Biting into them would send you to another dimension,
so we picked out the peppers and ate the rest.
Even so, the overall taste wasn't unfamiliar,
and it actually felt closer to Korean Jajangmyeon
than to Beijing-style Jajangmyeon.
As we were finishing up and about to leave, the owner came over
and suddenly gave us a cat keyring as a gift!
It was a delightful meal right to the very end.

At Mianfafang, you can specify your desired spiciness level to the staff after choosing your menu item. The article recommends opting for a mild spiciness, as ordering it spicy can make it very hot.
The Shrimp Beef Bibim-myeon tastes similar to a familiar beef and shrimp Jajangmyeon. The Kidney and Large Intestine Bibim-myeon has a rich flavor, reminiscent of eating Jajangmyeon with large intestines or kidney.
