Today, I'm sharing my experience at Weihai's Dongcheng Road Night Market.

The Dongcheng Road Night Market has a higher proportion of locals than tourists,

making it the perfect place to soak in the authentic,

local Weihai vibe.

Dongcheng Road is written as 东城路 in Chinese characters,

meaning 'street inside the east city gate.'

It takes its name directly from a road located on the east side of

Huancui District's downtown.

Unlike thematic place names like Hanlerfang, this night market started from

an existing street name,

and for over 30 years, it has been known simply as

'Dongcheng Road Night Market' without any special alias.

With a higher proportion of locals than tourists, many say this is actually the

better spot to experience a truly authentic local atmosphere.

After extensive renovations in 2024, the market was further organized with

improved infrastructure like water, sewage, and electricity, along with

stalls featuring a unified design.

You can savor everything from nationally popular dishes like Malatang, fresh oysters,

and grilled clams, to Chinese BBQ and local snacks, all in one place.

2. Location, Operating Hours, and Nearby Attractions

Dongcheng Road Night Market is in a neighborhood where you can easily explore

Qixia Street, Huancuilou Park, and Weigao Plaza all on foot.

You can reach them all within about a 10-minute walk.

The Gate of Happiness is a bit further away, towards the coast, so I recommend a short ride via Didi Taxi.

Both are often mentioned as must-visit night spots in Weihai, but they have distinctly different vibes.

If Hanlerfang is a tourist spot recreating Korean streets,

Dongcheng Road Night Market is closer to an authentic local night market with over 30 years of history.

4. Exploring the Dongcheng Road Night Market

At Dongcheng Road Night Market, there were even

stalls where locals did their grocery shopping.

There were also places selling full meal options beyond just street food,

giving it the feel of a night market where many restaurants gather.

Unlike Hanlerfang (Koreatown),

there were many stalls selling seafood and shellfish here.

When it came to food, oyster stalls were abundant,

and you could even order and enjoy your meal at a separate table.

There were also stalls selling fruits.

The colors were so vibrant, making everything look incredibly fresh.

It's truly a blend of a night market and a local market, just as we imagine!

And of course, there were plenty of light snacks too,

with tarts and mochi on offer.

If you've already had a meal, you could certainly enjoy a quick snack

while you explore!

I was also amazed to find Liangfen, a snack

I'd seen on Chinese travel variety shows!

It's a quintessential Chinese street food, a starch jelly noodle dish where you can add

chili oil, mala sauce, cumin, minced garlic, vinegar, soy sauce, and more to your liking.

And naturally, skewers are an absolute must-try!

From scallion intestines to pork skewers and lamb skewers,

they're grilled right in front of you.

There was even a street stall-style eatery, similar to Korean eomuk bars,

where you could gather and eat together.

It felt like a spicy seafood fish cake soup, and it was always bustling with people.

There was also a vendor, like the one in Hanlerfang (Koreatown),

making freshly fried Guobarou on the spot, but I didn't get a chance to try it.

⭐ Here's what I indulged in!

First, I ordered what I thought were lamb skewers,

but it turned out to be pork skewers when I tasted them!

Still, because they were grilled fresh on the spot, they were absolutely delicious.

Once you've got your skewers, it's time for some drinks, right?

I found a place selling draft beer and got myself one.

Then, someone asked if I was 'Hangguo Ren' (Korean),

and when I said yes, the chicken shop next door surprised me with free chicken

and told me to enjoy it there! How amazing is that?!

In Weihai, being Korean meant I received so much

consideration and friendly service. It truly made me want to come back 200%!

There were seating areas right next to the entrance of Qixia Street,

so I sat down and enjoyed a truly local experience.

Right next to the night market street, there are also restaurant areas.

I highly recommend visiting Dongseong-ro Night Market

as part of your travel itinerary, in addition to Hanlerfang.

5. Concluding Our Exploration

Dongseong-ro Night Market felt even more

authentically local than I expected.

It was such a joy to explore among the locals, discovering everything from seafood, oysters,

and skewers to fruits.

I went to buy a draft beer, and when asked if I was Korean, I said yes, and the shop next door...

They even threw in some free chicken for us!

The vibe here is quite different from Hanlefang,

so it might be a fun idea to visit both and compare them!
