We set out for the airport at 5:30 AM, but the excitement and anticipation easily outweighed any fatigue.

Viva Aerobus, a leading budget airline in Mexico, is headquartered right in Monterrey.

This means they primarily operate domestic flights within Mexico and short-haul routes to nearby U.S. cities.

Given its base in Monterrey, it's no surprise that Terminal C at Monterrey International Airport is exclusively dedicated to Viva Aerobus flights.

Interestingly, Viva Aerobus currently holds a monopoly on direct flights from Monterrey to Los Cabos.

This lack of competition means the airfare can be surprisingly steep for a budget airline.

And true to its low-cost model, you have to add baggage separately. Even for a domestic flight, the total cost per person came out to almost ~$207. Ouch!🥲

A quick heads-up: Viva Aerobus only accepts U.S. or Mexican credit cards for direct bookings. Since I don't have either, I booked my tickets through Trip.com.

Despite it being 6 AM on a Saturday, Terminal C was buzzing with travelers.

Luckily, we'd already done our web check-in, so we zipped past the counters and headed straight for security!

This was my first time flying Viva Aerobus during my Mexico travels, and I was surprised by how spacious the dedicated terminal felt inside.

They even have a Starbucks, something I hadn't seen in Terminal 2!

You can even spot promotional figures for Coco Bongo, Cancun's famous night show.🤣

But we couldn't linger too long. Our gate, number 24, required a quick dash to an adjacent building. "¡Rápido, rápido!" (Fast, fast!) we went.🏃‍➡️

My friend mentioned this was a newly constructed building, which explained its incredibly fresh and clean feel.

And guess what? There's a Panda Express, a great spot for affordable Chinese food! (Though, being in an airport, it's probably pricier than usual.)

As a low-cost carrier, Viva Aerobus doesn't offer complimentary food or drinks, including water.

So, I grabbed a bottle of water for the flight, and it cost 85 pesos (about ~$5)! Can you believe water is a luxury item now?

They even asked if I wanted to leave a tip for buying water – that's where I drew the line and gave a firm "No!" 🤷

After my pricey water purchase, it was time to board. We had to walk directly to the plane, which I actually enjoyed for the up-close view of the aircraft.

Once on board, I was hit with a blast of air conditioning so strong I felt like a fresh vegetable in the produce aisle!😂

It was refreshing at first, but by the time we landed, I was pretty chilly. Definitely recommend bringing a light jacket or sweater!

As for the seats, they're typical for a short-haul budget flight – not super spacious. I found it hard to catch proper sleep without a neck pillow. However, there were quite a few empty seats, so we managed to snag a "lie-flat economy" spot on both the outbound and return flights!🛌

After a quick nap, we touched down in Los Cabos! The mountains visible from the plane were truly stunning and made for a memorable arrival.
