Monterrey to Mexico City Flight Guide 2026: Aeromexico
Discover the best way to travel from Monterrey to Mexico City. Learn why Aeromexico is highly recommended for domestic flights, offering comfort and convenience for your 2026 adventure.
My sibling recently came to visit me in Mexico, and I really wanted to show them the vibrant capital. So, we traveled from Monterrey to Mexico City on a domestic Mexican flight with Aeromexico.

Where to Buy Domestic Mexico Flight Tickets
Trip.com
Personally, when it comes to purchasing flight tickets, including domestic flights within Mexico, I always tend to book through Trip.com.

As a subsidiary of Skyscanner, Trip.com utilizes the same low-price search engine, and they frequently offer discount events on flights and hotels, making it easy to find the cheapest airfares.
There are several domestic airlines in Mexico, but among them, the one I recommend is Aeromexico.
Aeromexico is essentially Mexico's national carrier, and since it's part of the SkyTeam alliance, you can actually accrue miles with partner airlines like Delta or Air France/KLM.

What's more, Aeromexico offers free Wi-Fi even on short domestic flights.

And here's the kicker: the price difference between Aeromexico and budget airlines for domestic routes is often minimal. That's why I strongly recommend Aeromexico for all your domestic travel within Mexico – you get the added benefit of mileage accrual!

Mexico Domestic Flight - Aeromexico
Monterrey International Airport, serving Mexico's third-largest city, is surprisingly compact for a city of its size.

Since it was a domestic flight, we didn't have any checked luggage, and with web check-in, we arrived at our gate within just 10 minutes of getting to the airport!
Our flight from Monterrey to Mexico City even had in-flight screens.

Flying from Monterrey to Mexico City takes only about 1 hour.

However, driving from Monterrey to Mexico City would take at least 10 hours, and there are also safety concerns on the road. So, I highly recommend traveling by plane whenever possible.
Furthermore, Mexico City is located in a high-altitude region, so you get incredible views of the city from the plane as you descend. It's truly a sight to behold, making flying an even stronger recommendation!

And just like that, after five years, I had arrived back in Mexico City – a place I'd longed to revisit! For those unfamiliar, CDMX is the abbreviation for Ciudad De Mexico, which simply means 'City of Mexico' or Mexico City.

With two Mexican friends, my sibling, and myself – five of us in total – we took an Uber from the airport to a cafe near our accommodation. Seeing the small garden outside the airport exit, I truly felt like I had arrived back in Mexico City.

Mexico during its dry season is quite arid, but thanks to that, the sky is always clear and incredibly beautiful.

My Mexican friend always prioritizes safety when traveling, and since there were three women and two men in our group, we chose to stay in Zona Rosa, an upscale and safer neighborhood, rather than the bustling Centro Historico. The atmosphere in this affluent area of Mexico City was distinctly different from places I had previously explored.

Since there were five of us, we opted for an Airbnb, but honestly, it turned out to be quite dirty, and the host was unfriendly. So, I would generally recommend staying in a hotel instead. Even in this upscale neighborhood, hotel prices aren't exorbitant, and you'll find better security for enjoying the nightlife. For a fantastic staycation experience complete with a pool and gym, I highly recommend the Galeria Plaza Reforma Hotel!
