The Legend of the Chapultepec Boy Heroes
The young cadets who fought to the last to defend Chapultepec Castle
Midway up to the second floor, if you look at the ceiling, you'll discover a mural depicting one of Chapultepec Castle's most significant historical moments:
the Legend of the Boy Heroes.

The Boy Heroes of Chapultepec were young cadets who, when American forces entered Chapultepec Castle, chose to stand and fight rather than retreat, ultimately perishing in battle.
One reason they are remembered as legends is that all these boys were under 20 years old, with the youngest being just 13. Unlike most soldiers who retreated, these six cadets fought to their last breath.
Notably, Juan Escutia, depicted in the mural, is remembered as a patriotic hero who, to prevent the American forces from capturing the Mexican flag, wrapped it around himself and jumped from the castle summit.
To honor these young heroes, September 13th is designated as a national holiday in Mexico.
Chapultepec Castle offers a profound insight into one of Mexico's most tragic historical moments.
