Many travelers heading to Mexico often prioritize Cancun, but I was eager to explore Mexico City before hitting the beaches. Given a late-night flight schedule into the city, my top priority was finding a safe and convenient place to stay for a single night near the airport. Opting for a hotel with a complimentary airport shuttle felt much safer than relying on taxis late at night, especially considering safety concerns in Mexico.
When planning a trip to Mexico, safety is often a significant consideration. Because of this, I wouldn't recommend simply choosing the cheapest hotel you can find. Instead, I suggest staying in a well-maintained hotel in a location that feels secure and comfortable.
Here were my key requirements for an airport hotel:
Close proximity to the airport
Offers a free airport shuttle
Reasonably priced
Clean and well-kept
Hotel Riazor ticked all these boxes and proved to be a solid recommendation for an overnight stay near Mexico City International Airport (MEX).
The free shuttle bus from Mexico City Airport to Hotel Riazor typically waits for passengers throughout the day, especially before evening hours.

After clearing immigration and passing by numerous currency exchange offices, you'll find the hotel's office. Normally, you'd speak with them there to board the airport shuttle. However, since my flight arrived after 11:00 PM, I was advised to call the hotel upon arrival. My roaming service made the call a bit tricky to hear clearly.
Once you're directed to a specific exit number, the airport shuttle arrives almost immediately. The hotel is genuinely very close to the airport, making for a quick pick-up.

You'll board a comfortable and clean hotel shuttle like this one. The interior was spotless.

On the way to the hotel, you'll pass by some vibrant, colorful sculptures that perfectly capture Mexico's artistic spirit.
The journey from Mexico City Benito Juárez International Airport (MEX) to Hotel Riazor takes about 15 minutes. You might think, "Is that really 'near' the airport?" but remember, Mexico City is one of the largest metropolitan areas in the world!

After a safe arrival, I checked into the hotel. As a side note, on my way to the shuttle, I found a Seven-Eleven inside the airport and grabbed a sandwich. To my surprise, the Seven-Eleven in Mexico was surprisingly good! High quality, indeed!
And have you heard that Coca-Cola tastes different in Mexico? I couldn't do a direct comparison, so I'm not sure if it's true, but they say it's because it's made with real cane sugar. I honestly couldn't tell the difference myself.

The room itself was great – no carpet, which I always appreciate! It featured a large bed, a table, and a dresser.
The bathroom was quite spacious and very clean, equipped with a shower stall.
Overall, it was a perfectly adequate hotel for a one-night stay. I only slept there and checked out to move to another hotel, but I would definitely consider staying here again if I needed an overnight stay near the airport in the future. It was a straightforward, no-frills option.
