Standing up there, looking out over the glittering skyline, it instantly clicked why this is universally crowned as the ultimate Hong Kong night view spot.
With so many viewpoints to choose from in the city, here is my personal take on why Sky Terrace 428 is worth it, how to navigate the route without getting lost, and where to find the best ticket deals to save you some cash.
Consider this your go-to guide for an unforgettable evening at Victoria Peak.
When it comes to experiencing Hong Kong after dark, three spots always top the list:
1. Victoria Peak (Sky Terrace 428)
2. Symphony of Lights (Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade)
3. Temple Street Night Market
If you are relying on public transit, I highly recommend picking just one of these major spots per evening to avoid rushing through the experience.
However, if you want to bundle all three into a seamless night, booking a guided night bus tour is a fantastic, stress-free alternative.
Since my itinerary was tight, I focused solely on taking the Peak Tram up to Sky Terrace 428. Honestly, standing at the top made me realize just how breathtaking Hong Kong truly is.
Because Sky Terrace 428 sits right at the top of Victoria Peak, taking the Peak Tram is the most iconic way to get there. Make sure to purchase a combo ticket that includes both the tram ride and terrace admission!
📍 Peak Tram Lower Terminus
St. John's Building, 33 Garden Rd, Central, Hong Kong
To reach Sky Terrace 428, you first need to head to the Peak Tram Lower Terminus. I was worried it might be confusing, but this route turned out to be incredibly straightforward:
Take the MTR to Central Station, head to Pedder Street to catch a double-decker bus, and get off at Bank Street or Murray Road. From there, it is just a short, scenic walk.
The signage along the streets is massive, and station staff are super helpful with directions, so you won't have to worry about getting lost.
Once you arrive, simply scan your pre-booked digital voucher and head up the escalators. Even though the queue looked intimidating, the tram holds a lot of passengers, meaning the line moves surprisingly fast.
You do not need to reserve a specific boarding time slot when purchasing your ticket, which gives you plenty of flexibility.
However, since boarding is first-come, first-served, the crowds swell significantly right before sunset. Plan to arrive early! Here was my exact timeline from a mid-December evening:
5:00 PM: Joined the queue
5:25 PM: Scanned QR code to enter the boarding area
5:40 PM: Boarded the Peak Tram
6:00 PM: Arrived at Victoria Peak
This timing was absolutely perfect for catching the transition from twilight to the full night skyline.
Once you scan your QR code and step inside, the queue can get a bit confusing as it splits into different paths.
I saw two separate lines heading up the escalators and felt a brief moment of panic about which one to choose...
But don't worry: both the left and right lines merge at the top. They both lead to the exact same boarding platform. Just pick whichever line is shorter to save time!
The real strategy comes into play once you actually step onto the tram.
Where you sit completely changes what you see on the way up. The views are vastly different depending on your side of the car.
Having ridden it both ways, here is the golden rule for seating:
On the way up (Ascending): Sit on the RIGHT side.
On the way down (Descending): Sit on the LEFT side.
Sitting on the right side on the way up gives you an incredible, gravity-defying perspective of the skyscrapers leaning dramatically as you ascend the steep mountain slope.
Ticket prices can vary quite a bit across booking platforms. I did a quick comparison, and Klook consistently offered the best rates for Hong Kong attractions.

Hong Kong Peak Tram & Sky Terrace 428 Ticket - Klook
No trip to Hong Kong is complete without witnessing its legendary skyline from above. The Peak Tram and Sky Terrace 428 offer an unbeatable experience that is absolutely worth the hype.
By booking your tickets in advance, you will save both time and money, leaving you with nothing to do but soak in the unforgettable views.
After getting off at Central Station in Hong Kong, you need to take a double-decker bus from Pedder Street. Then, get off at Bank Street or Murray Road and follow the signs to reach the terminus.
On the ascent to the peak, you should sit on the right side for the best city view. Conversely, on the descent, it is recommended to choose a seat on the left side.
If you start waiting at 17:00, you will enter the interior using a QR code after about 25 minutes. Then, you will board the Peak Tram at 17:40 and enter Victoria Peak at 18:00, taking about 1 hour in total.
As of December 2025, Klook is the cheapest at ~$17, KKday is ~$18, and MyRealTrip is ~$19. If you want to reduce your waiting time, you can use the Ruby Pass, a fast-track ticket sold on Klook for ~$16 one-way.
