My Vatican Tour Itinerary

The tour I chose was a morning half-day tour with a professional Korean-speaking guide (and Fast Track access!).

It was a fantastic approximately 5-hour itinerary, covering all the major highlights from the artworks inside the Vatican Museums to the Sistine Chapel

and St. Peter's Basilica. It was quite hot that day, so being able to have my afternoon free to explore as I wished was incredibly satisfying! 👍🏻

A Rich Collection of Artworks

At the Vatican Museums,

I got to see famous artworks I'd only ever seen in textbooks,

right before my eyes! What was especially exciting was

Raphael's School of Athens!

This masterpiece symbolizes ancient Greek philosophy and academia,

with Plato and Aristotle depicted in the center.

When I'd seen it in photos, it just felt like another famous painting,

but listening to our guide's explanations

and discovering each character made the experience so much more engaging.

And the places I was most looking forward to on this day were, of course,

St. Peter's Basilica and the Sistine Chapel.

Photography is prohibited inside the Sistine Chapel,

so I couldn't take any pictures ❌

but I think that made me appreciate it even more, taking it all in with my own eyes.

You get to see Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel ceiling,

which he completed over approximately four years, right before your eyes.

Perhaps because we listened to our guide's explanations beforehand,

the feeling I got when I looked up at the ceiling was truly intense.

The sheer scale of it was completely different from what I'd seen in photos,

and that moment looking up at the ceiling remains the most memorable part of my Vatican visit.

St. Peter's Basilica

Located in the heart of Vatican City,

its sheer scale was overwhelming the moment I stepped inside.

Gazing at the soaring ceilings and vast interior space,

you immediately understand why St. Peter's Basilica is the iconic symbol of the Vatican.

It was here that I also got to see

Michelangelo's Pietà, which I had long wanted to witness in person.

In photos, it always appeared massive,

but in reality, it's viewed from a slight distance behind glass, making it feel smaller than expected.

Nevertheless, the Virgin Mary's expression and the intricate detail of the sculpture

were incredibly impressive.

After exploring the magnificent Vatican Museums

and finally visiting St. Peter's Basilica, it truly felt like

a comprehensive and fulfilling tour had come to an end.
