Highly recommended as both an ocean-view cafe and a coffee roastery in Qingdao,
Vanilla Specialty Coffee Cafe
is nestled near 'Badaguan,' an area renowned for its cluster of charming, exotic buildings.
Vanilla Specialty Coffee is the building on the left.

While it’s lovely to stroll here after exploring Badaguan, we opted for a taxi right to the cafe’s doorstep.
Thanks to that, the breathtaking ocean view unfolded before us the moment we stepped out of the taxi,
allowing us to fully soak it all in.
(Just a 10-minute walk further from here was an observatory,
but alas, the sun had already set, and we couldn't make it – a truly sad tale!)
Head to the far left, and you’ll spot the cafe’s inviting entrance.
Cafe Entrance
The entrance warmly greets you with the sign for Vanilla Specialty Coffee.
Later, I realized they were actually keeping an eye on guests arriving via CCTV from the counter!
Interestingly, the first floor serves solely as a passageway.
It was so empty at this point that I even wondered if I’d somehow come to the wrong place!
Amidst this, a classic motorcycle with a sidecar and a stylish mirror create a perfect photo zone.
It’s also a great spot to comfortably wait for your Didi ride home! 😉
The actual cafe, however, is located on the second floor.
It seems there can be quite a wait during peak season,
as waiting seats are thoughtfully provided both inside and outside.
Cafe Interior - First Floor
Initially, as I entered, it was so quiet and serene,
I assumed it would be small or not very busy,
but it turned out to be an unexpected hot spot!
A U-shaped counter and convenient service tables.
The first floor seating offers ample space to accommodate various groups and guests.
Students, remote workers, and friends enjoying conversations or simply relaxing, all harmoniously blended together,
creating an atmosphere that was just right – not too loud, not too quiet, simply full of good vibes.
For those who want to feel even closer to the ocean,
the four-person window seats are undoubtedly the most popular.
When we arrived,
it was almost full except for these bar seats facing the service table.
They offered to move us if a better spot opened up, so we sat down for the time being,
but once we actually sat, we liked it so much that we just stayed there the whole time.
I love bar seats even at cocktail bars,
and this place had that kind of vibe.
It was so cozy and lovely, with the staff busy making coffee right in front of us, the ocean view on the left,
and the overall cafe atmosphere on the right.
The best part about the window seats is that you can enjoy the sunset up close!
Inside the Cafe - Second Floor
Ascending the gently sloped stairs,
you'll find even more seating available on the second floor.
Even at midday, the sun pours in beautifully, and as the sun sets,
the soft orange lighting maintains a wonderfully cozy atmosphere.
The **restroom** is also located on the **second floor**.
It was so clean, and they even had hand soap and hand cream,
which makes it a five-star restroom experience in China.
You can also access the **rooftop** through the door next to the restroom,
and it looked amazing for getting an even closer ocean view.
When I visited, it was freezing cold, so I didn't even dare to go,
but I bet it's super popular with waiting lines in the lush summer!
Upon being seated, they provide the menu along with warm water.
They offer meticulous service, on par with friendly cafes in Korea,
which makes the slightly higher coffee prices feel totally worth it!
Coffee Menu
True to a specialty coffee shop, the menu starts with descriptions of the coffee beans, machines, and grinders.
The hand-drip coffee line, featuring beans they roast themselves,
includes information like origin, bean type, and brewing method.
They have options from Ethiopia, Costa Rica, Colombia, Honduras, and more,
but since my favorite Guatemala wasn't available, I decided to pick the closest alternative.
From Panama single-origin hand-drip,
to espresso-based drinks, lattes, dirty coffee, and flat whites,
there's a wide range of coffee choices, making it fun to pick!
For non-coffee options, there are additional choices like
sodas and beers available at the counter.
Dessert Menu
All desserts are made in-house, featuring a lineup primarily of cakes, including
**tarts, cheesecakes, mille-feuille, and tiramisu**.
The prices range from **60~65元**, which is a bit pricey even compared to cafes in Korea,
but what the people next to us ordered looked incredibly delicious.
Ordering
Orders are taken directly at the counter near the entrance.
Surprisingly, there's no QR ordering at your table, which gives it an old-school, analog feel—
for a moment, it made me forget I was even in China!
And hey, there's a new menu item I spotted at the counter: Melbourne Iced Coffee. Someone should definitely try it!
On the first floor, they also sell various merchandise and their own freshly roasted coffee beans.
The merchandise is also quite stylish.
Various coffee awards and certificates heighten the anticipation!

Once your drinks are ready, they are brought directly to your table.

Whenever I indulge in hand-drip coffee,
I always find myself pondering: hot, where you can truly immerse yourself in the nuanced taste and aroma, versus iced, which is simply my go-to preference.
It's a delightful dilemma, isn't it?
But here at Vanilla Specialty Coffee in Qingdao,
you can enjoy both options without having to order them separately – how fantastic is that!
The flavors of the Honduras and Costa Rica beans were distinctly different,
and their depth and body varied, making each of us absolutely delighted with our chosen beans.
You can absolutely trust the descriptions on the menu when making your choice!
